Liquid Swords, the studio behind Samson: A Tyndalston Story, has officially confirmed its closure despite the game’s console version performing significantly better than its PC release.

Swedish developer Liquid Swords is shutting down just one month after launching Samson: A Tyndalston Story on PlayStation 5.

Studio founder Christofer Sundberg, previously known for his work on the Just Cause franchise, confirmed the news in a social media statement.

“Liquid Swords is closing. Samson did far better on consoles, but it wasn’t enough to save the studio,” Sundberg explained.

Samson PS5 Sales Couldn’t Save Liquid Swords

Samson: A Tyndalston Story originally launched on PC in April 2026 before arriving on PS5 on September 21.

The open-world crime game received mixed reviews at launch, with criticism focusing on technical problems, repetitive gameplay and overall polish.

Liquid Swords subsequently released several updates in an attempt to improve the experience before its console debut.

According to Sundberg, console sales significantly outperformed PC sales, but the stronger reception was not enough to secure the studio’s future.

No specific sales figures have been disclosed.

Samson Could Still Receive Future Support

Before the official closure announcement, Swedish publication Breakit reported that Liquid Swords had entered bankruptcy proceedings following financial difficulties.

The report also indicated that approximately 30 employees were affected, with unpaid wages contributing to the studio’s problems.

Despite the closure, Sundberg suggested that Samson might not be completely abandoned.

“We’re discussing continued support for Samson,” he stated.

However, no future updates or support arrangements have been confirmed.

The closure marks the end of Liquid Swords, a studio founded with ambitions to create a new generation of action-driven open-world games.
