Onimusha: Way of the Sword Sells 1 Million Copies on Launch Day

Onimusha: Way of the Sword has sold more than one million copies worldwide on its first day, pushing lifetime sales of Capcom’s Onimusha franchise beyond 10 million units.

The milestone marks an impressive return for a series that had gone more than two decades without a completely new mainline entry.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Passes 1 Million Sales

Capcom officially announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword surpassed one million worldwide sales on launch day.

The publisher credited several pre-release marketing initiatives for helping build interest, including multiple playable demos and hands-on events that introduced the game to a broader audience.

Its strong debut has also pushed the entire Onimusha franchise beyond 10 million copies sold.

Capcom Plans to Revive More Older Franchises

The success comes as Capcom continues looking deeper into its extensive catalogue of dormant franchises.

The company reiterated that it intends to leverage its existing library alongside releasing major new titles each year, potentially opening the door for more long-dormant Capcom properties to return.

Onimusha isn’t the only classic series receiving another opportunity. Mega Man: Dual Override is currently scheduled for 2027, marking the franchise’s first new release since Mega Man 11 in 2018.

For Onimusha, however, selling one million copies on launch day gives Capcom an immediate indication that there is still significant demand for the franchise after its lengthy absence.
