Grand Theft Auto 6<\/a> players aren’t exactly choosing the cheapest way into Rockstar’s next blockbuster, as new data suggests an overwhelming majority of early buyers are opting for the game’s $100 Ultimate Edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to data from digital intelligence firm Sensor Tower, around 89% of GTA 6 pre-orders currently belong to the Ultimate Edition<\/strong>, supporting recent comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick that early consumer demand has been leaning heavily toward the game’s premium offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GTA 6 Ultimate Edition Dominates Early Pre-Orders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sensor Tower’s Karl Kontus recently discussed GTA 6’s early sales performance with GamesIndustry.biz, revealing that the $100 edition currently dominates pre-orders across both PlayStation<\/a> 5 and Xbox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The numbers are remarkably similar between the two platforms. Approximately 90% of Xbox pre-orders are for the Ultimate Edition<\/strong>, while the figure sits at around 88.5% on PlayStation 5<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those numbers probably won’t remain quite so extreme as GTA 6 gets closer to launch, however.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kontus believes the current audience consists heavily of dedicated GTA fans who are more willing to spend extra on the premium version. Once Rockstar’s full marketing campaign begins and more casual players start placing their orders, he expects the gap between the editions to shrink considerably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe vast majority of the marketing campaign hasn\u2019t kicked off yet, and most of the preorders will come in the last week or so pre-launch.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Kontus believes the eventual split could move much closer to 50\/50<\/strong>, although he also acknowledged that GTA 6 is particularly difficult to predict because there simply isn’t another upcoming game operating on the same scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GTA 6 Pre-Orders Are Expected to Surge Closer to Release<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Take-Two recently described the early pre-order performance for GTA 6 as \u201cexceptional,\u201d but the biggest wave of purchases may still be months away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sensor Tower expects a significant portion of the game’s total pre-orders to arrive during the final stretch before launch, when Rockstar’s marketing campaign will presumably be operating at full speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s also another major promotional moment approaching quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rockstar recently confirmed an extended look at GTA 6 for August 27<\/strong>, which will premiere on Netflix before becoming available on Rockstar’s YouTube channel later that day. The presentation should give players another substantial look at the game ahead of its November launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the $100 Ultimate Edition currently accounting for almost nine out of every ten pre-orders, GTA 6 is already demonstrating just how much its most dedicated audience is willing to spend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether that percentage holds once millions of more casual players begin buying the game is another question entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
