Fans waiting for the next major single-player Horizon adventure may need plenty of patience, as a new report claims Guerrilla Games<\/a>‘ next mainline entry is still years away from completion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason appears to be Okupljanje lovaca na horizonte<\/strong>, Guerrilla’s upcoming multiplayer project. Most of the studio has reportedly spent the last several years working on the online game, leaving only a small team to begin development on the next traditional Horizon title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guerrilla Has Only a Small Team on the Next Horizon Game<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier recently reported that almost all of Guerrilla Games has been focused on Horizon Hunters Gathering<\/strong> over the past few years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, development on the next mainline single-player Horizon game hasn’t progressed nearly as far as some fans might have hoped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Schreier, only a \u201ctiny team\u201d<\/strong> has been working on the project so far, suggesting that the next Horizon adventure hasn’t yet entered full-scale production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schreier further clarified the situation on Bluesky:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With such a small development team currently assigned to the project, the next mainline Horizon is reportedly still \u201cyears away from completion.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Horizon Hunters Gathering Is Reportedly Being Overhauled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The news arrives at an interesting time for Guerrilla, as Horizon Hunters Gathering is itself reportedly undergoing substantial changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following negative feedback from two closed playtests, Guerrilla is said to be moving away from the game’s original live-service structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, Hunters Gathering is reportedly being redesigned as a more traditional cooperative multiplayer game<\/strong>, complete with a story mode and a smaller overall scope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The live-service elements are also reportedly being removed entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project hasn’t been canceled, but Guerrilla reportedly has until December 2026<\/strong> to demonstrate the new direction to PlayStation<\/a> executives with its next major development milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Horizon Still Has Several Projects Coming<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although another large single-player Horizon game may be a long way off, Sony isn’t slowing down its expansion of the franchise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside Hunters Gathering, Horizon Steel Frontiers<\/strong> is currently in development as an MMORPG and is reportedly targeting a 2027 release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Horizon movie<\/strong> is also reportedly planned, further expanding the franchise beyond PlayStation’s traditional single-player games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, for players specifically waiting for another adventure in the style of Horizon Zero Dawn<\/strong> i Horizon Forbidden West<\/strong>, the latest report suggests there won’t be a new mainline entry anytime soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Guerrilla’s resources having been heavily committed to Hunters Gathering, full production on the next single-player Horizon game may only begin once the studio’s multiplayer plans become clearer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, Aloy’s next major single-player adventure appears to remain somewhere over the horizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
