The ongoing debate surrounding physical and digital video games has attracted comments from one of PlayStation’s<\/a> most influential figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ken Kutaragi<\/strong>, widely known as the Father of PlayStation, has shared his perspective on the future of physical games and why he believes digital distribution is becoming increasingly practical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking with Video Games Chronicle<\/a>, Kutaragi acknowledged that many players remain emotionally attached to owning games on disc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI understand that physical discs have become a metaphor for \u2018owning\u2019 games. I really understand that mentality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He compared the situation to smartphones, where users generally accept purchasing and accessing digital content without physical copies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kutaragi also questioned whether continuing to manufacture physical discs makes financial sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI really understand [why some people are upset], but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s economically reasonable,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Physical vs. Digital Games Remains a Major Debate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kutaragi’s comments arrive amid reports suggesting that PlayStation could move away from physical game releases in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Kutaragi no longer works at Sony<\/strong>, and his statements should not be interpreted as confirmation of the company’s future hardware or publishing plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has also recently questioned the controversy surrounding physical games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
