Xbox Leadership Restructuring Continues

Chiang became Xbox’s first Chief Operating Officer earlier in 2026, but her tenure lasted only three months.

Sharma thanked Chiang for her years of service and confirmed that her responsibilities would temporarily be distributed among other Xbox executives.

Microsoft has not announced a permanent replacement or provided a reason for her departure.

The leadership change follows Phil Spencer’s retirement and Sharma’s appointment as Xbox CEO.

Since then, Microsoft’s gaming division has undergone significant restructuring, including layoffs, studio changes and adjustments to its console exclusivity strategy.

The company is also preparing its next-generation Xbox hardware, currently known as Project Helix.

Despite the ongoing changes, Xbox reportedly remains confident about returning to profitability in fiscal year 2027.

Chiang’s departure adds another major leadership change to an already turbulent year for Xbox, with further details about the COO position expected later.
