Playground Games has revealed how long players can expect to spend with Fable, with the main quest offering around 15–20 hours of gameplay and another 15–20 hours dedicated to side quests and open-world exploration.
We now have a much better idea of just how big Fable will be when the long-awaited reboot finally arrives in 2027.
During Gamescom 2026, the developers shared new details about the game’s expected length, covering everything from its main storyline to optional activities and the life simulation systems that players can continue enjoying long after completing the campaign.
For anyone planning to experience most of what Albion has to offer, it sounds like around 30–40 hours could be a reasonable starting point.
And that’s before getting lost in Fable’s life systems.

Fable’s Main Story Will Take Around 15–20 Hours
Speaking during a Gamescom 2026 Q&A, the developers revealed that Fable’s main questline is expected to take approximately 15–20 hours.
That puts the campaign at a relatively manageable length for a modern open-world RPG, but completing the story represents only part of the overall experience.
The developers explained:
“We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay, we have around 15-20 of side and open-world exploration content gameplay. And then, of course, the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want.”
Players interested in exploring beyond the main story can therefore expect another 15–20 hours of side quests and open-world content.
Combining the two figures suggests that players engaging with both the primary campaign and a substantial amount of optional content could spend somewhere around 30–40 hours with the adventure.
Naturally, actual playtime will depend heavily on how each player approaches the game.

Fable’s Life Systems Can Keep You Playing Much Longer
Where things become considerably more difficult to measure is Fable’s life simulation.
The developers describe these systems as essentially limitless, allowing players to continue interacting with Albion beyond the structured main and side quests.
Life simulation has always been an important part of Fable’s identity.
The franchise has traditionally allowed players to spend time away from adventuring by interacting with NPCs, developing relationships and engaging with various activities throughout the world.
The reboot appears determined to preserve that philosophy rather than turning Fable into a straightforward action RPG.
As a result, the quoted 30–40 hours shouldn’t be interpreted as the amount of time required to see absolutely everything.
Players who become invested in Albion’s optional systems could potentially spend far longer there.
Fable Finally Arrives in 2027
The reboot has been a long time coming.
Originally planned for an earlier release, Fable was delayed into 2027, giving Playground Games additional development time before welcoming players back to Albion.
The new game represents a major moment for the franchise for another reason as well.
Fable has historically been closely associated with Xbox, but the reboot will also make its way to PlayStation, bringing one of Microsoft’s most recognizable gaming franchises to a new audience.
With around 15–20 hours of story content, another 15–20 hours of side activities and effectively unlimited time available through its life systems, the new Fable looks set to offer plenty to do without requiring players to spend hundreds of hours simply finishing its central narrative.
How does a roughly 30–40 hour Fable experience sound to you? Is that the ideal length for an RPG like this, or were you hoping for something considerably bigger? Let us know in the comments below.
