More GTA 6 details have emerged from recent preview sessions, revealing smarter NPC behavior, different fighting styles for Jason and Lucia, dynamic robberies and a relationship system that can even allow the protagonists to break up.
The information comes from creator MikeShowSha’s preview session and conversation with Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson, offering another look at how deeply Rockstar is expanding its open world.

GTA 6 NPCs Will React Differently to Armed Players
NPC reactions will depend on the situation. Pulling out a weapon won’t automatically produce the same response from everyone — some civilians may flee or become frightened, while others can potentially approach and attempt to disarm the player.
NPCs can also drop accessories during fights. In one demonstration, a character lost their hat and glasses, which Jason could then pick up and wear. This could prove particularly useful when trying to change appearance after committing a crime.
Police officers won’t all perform identically either. During the preview, Jason outran a heavier officer who eventually stopped exhausted and out of breath.
Rockstar’s vehicle physics also appear highly dynamic. The dramatic police crashes seen in GTA 6’s Extended Look weren’t necessarily scripted, with police vehicles reportedly reacting differently when similar situations were recreated.
Robberies Can Develop in Unexpected Ways
Stores can offer more than simply grabbing cash and escaping.
During one robbery, a threatened cashier revealed the existence of a safe in a back room, leaving the player to decide whether to risk staying longer for a bigger payout.
Another random encounter involved two masked women trapped during a jewelry store robbery who asked Jason and Lucia for assistance. Rockstar reportedly explained that even its developers hadn’t encountered that particular event for months during testing.
NPC clothing will also reflect their surroundings, with sportswear appearing more frequently around gyms and different styles being used across neighborhoods.
Jason and Lucia Have Different Fighting Styles
The two protagonists won’t feel identical during melee combat.
Lucia uses a more technical and agile fighting style influenced by kickboxing and mixed martial arts, while Jason fights more like a traditional street brawler, relying on powerful punches and physical strength.
Players can also issue contextual instructions to their AI-controlled partner. During one chase, Jason telling Lucia to hurry caused her to drive faster and maneuver more aggressively through traffic.
Jason and Lucia Can Break Up
GTA 6‘s relationship system also gives players significant control over Jason and Lucia’s personal relationship.
Nelson confirmed that Jason and Lucia can stop being romantically involved, but they’ll remain criminal partners and continue their shared story. Players can therefore maintain a romantic relationship or move toward a more professional partnership.
Relationships can also become unhealthy depending on player decisions. Hiding information from the other character, for example, may avoid an immediate confrontation but create larger consequences if the truth emerges later.
Combined with GTA 6’s previously revealed fitness, weight and sleep systems, these details point toward Rockstar putting considerably more emphasis on character behavior and player-driven interactions than in GTA 5.
GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
