The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Time Mechanic Won’t Be Used in Every Game

Rebel Wolves does not plan to force The Blood of Dawnwalker’s 30-day time mechanic into every future game, with director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz saying the studio is already exploring other ideas for the RPG genre.

The Blood of Dawnwalker gives players 30 days and 30 nights to rescue Coen’s family, but time doesn’t constantly tick away. Instead, certain actions and quests consume segments of time, forcing players to decide which activities are worth pursuing.

Speaking in a new interview with Eurogamer, Tomaszkiewicz discussed whether the system will become a defining feature of future Dawnwalker games.

Rebel Wolves Won’t Force the Mechanic Into Every Game

According to Tomaszkiewicz, the studio has not decided that every future game needs to follow the same structure.

The mechanic could instead evolve, potentially appearing only during specific parts of a future story where a sense of urgency makes sense.

Tomaszkiewicz explained that the system can be used to “boost the urgency of some events in the game,” but indicated that Rebel Wolves does not intend to repeat exactly the same gameplay loop with every release.

The studio is also looking beyond the existing system as it considers how future games could continue experimenting with established RPG conventions.

“We’re also considering and researching some other crazy ideas which can make the RPG genre different to surprise people in the future.”

The Dawnwalker Saga Is Already Looking Ahead

The comments are particularly interesting because Rebel Wolves has already confirmed that it is thinking about the next chapter in The Dawnwalker saga, with the studio recently hiring a Lead Writer for the project.

That doesn’t confirm what form the next game will take, but it suggests Rebel Wolves wants to continue experimenting rather than simply repeating The Blood of Dawnwalker’s structure.

For now, the 30-day system remains a defining part of The Blood of Dawnwalker, but it won’t necessarily define every game that follows.
