Konami is celebrating Castlevania’s 40th anniversary with a new animation that has already sparked speculation about a potential collection of the series’ 3D games.

The original Castlevania launched in 1986 for the Famicom Disk System, beginning a franchise that has now reached its 40th anniversary.

To celebrate the milestone, Konami released a special fan-service animation featuring Simon Belmont making his way through Dracula’s castle before encountering several other heroes from across the series.

However, it’s some of the background details that have caught fans’ attention.

Could Konami Be Teasing a Castlevania 3D Collection?

During the animation, Simon enters Dracula’s living room, where several framed pieces of artwork from previous Castlevania games can be seen.

The featured games include Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

Their inclusion has prompted speculation that Konami could be hinting at a future collection focused on Castlevania’s 3D era.

For now, however, Konami has not announced a Castlevania 3D Collection, meaning the artwork could simply be part of the wider 40th anniversary celebration rather than a deliberate teaser.

Konami is also marking the anniversary by bringing the original Castlevania to iOS and Android, where it will be available for free for a limited time.

With the anniversary celebrations now underway, fans will have to wait and see whether the references to Castlevania’s 3D history lead to something more substantial.
