Gears of War: E-Day has reportedly sold more than 400,000 copies across Xbox and Steam since its launch earlier this month, according to a new report.
The figure excludes players accessing the game through Xbox Game Pass, meaning the total number of people who have played the latest Gears of War installment could be considerably higher.
Gears of War: E-Day Sales Raise Questions About Xbox Exclusivity
According to The Verge journalist Tom Warren, Gears of War: E-Day has surpassed 400,000 paid sales across Xbox and Steam.
However, Microsoft has not officially confirmed the figures, and the game’s performance through Game Pass remains unclear.
The report also raises questions about Microsoft’s evolving console exclusivity strategy.
Unlike several other Xbox franchises that have expanded to PlayStation, Gears of War: E-Day remains unavailable on PS5.
A PlayStation release could potentially generate additional sales, although there is currently no indication that Microsoft plans to bring the game to Sony’s console.
Gears of War: E-Day marks the franchise’s first major new installment since Gears 5 in 2019.
The prequel has also received a positive critical reception, currently holding an 87 Metacritic score.
For now, the reported sales provide only a partial picture of the game’s commercial performance, particularly given its availability through Game Pass.
