Hideo Kojima has revealed that Bill Skarsgård will play the lead role in PHYSINT, marking the actor’s first performance in a video game.

Kojima announced the casting during the Xbox presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2026, providing a new update on the tactical espionage project and confirming that additional cast announcements are still to come.

Best known for roles including Pennywise in IT, Skarsgård now joins Kojima Productions for one of the studio’s most ambitious upcoming projects.

Kojima explained that he and Skarsgård have followed each other’s work for years and have now decided to collaborate on PHYSINT.

“We are both long-time fans of each others’ work and we’ve decided to embark on this new adventure together.”

Kojima also revealed that work with Skarsgård has already progressed beyond the casting stage. Costume fittings, scanning and camera tests were conducted earlier this year alongside Charlee Fraser, who had previously been announced as part of the cast.

“The costume fittings, scans, and camera tests we conducted with Bill and Charlee earlier this year gave me tremendous confidence in the direction of the project. My vision of the final form became much more solidified.”

The newly revealed teaser visual for PHYSINT also uses a photograph Kojima personally took of Skarsgård and Fraser during those sessions.

More PHYSINT Cast Members Are Coming

Skarsgård won’t be the final major name attached to the project. Kojima confirmed that “many exciting cast announcements” are planned for the future.

PHYSINT is being developed as a new tactical espionage game from Kojima Productions, with Kojima previously describing the project as an attempt to blur the boundaries between games and movies.

Following the end of PlayStation’s involvement with the project earlier this year, Xbox is now officially partnered with Kojima Productions on PHYSINT, with development continuing under the new arrangement.
