Bethesda Game Studios has unveiled a major update outlining the future of several of its biggest franchises, including Starfield, The Elder Scrolls, and Fallout. Alongside confirming that Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are receiving remasters and that Fallout 5 is in preproduction, the studio also revealed a brand-new expansion for Fallout 76.
The expansion, titled Raven Rock, will serve as a prequel to Fallout 3 and is currently scheduled to launch next year.
Raven Rock Will Explore Fallout 3’s History
In its official announcement, Bethesda confirmed that the next major Fallout 76 expansion will take players to one of the most iconic locations in the franchise.
“We have a major Fallout 76 expansion planned for next year: Raven Rock, a prequel story to Fallout 3.”
Rather than simply revisiting a familiar location, the expansion will explore Raven Rock long before the events of Fallout 3, giving players a deeper look into one of the Enclave’s most important strongholds.
What Is Raven Rock?
For longtime Fallout fans, Raven Rock is one of the most recognizable military installations in the series.
The facility serves as the headquarters of the Enclave, the shadowy organization that sought to restore its version of the United States after the Great War.
Players originally explored Raven Rock during Fallout 3, where it functioned as the home of President John Henry Eden, one of the game’s central characters.
Beyond its political importance, the installation also operates as a massive manufacturing complex responsible for producing advanced technology, including Vertibirds, Power Armor, and other military equipment.
Because Fallout 76 takes place in 2102, decades before Fallout 3, players will have the opportunity to experience Raven Rock during its operational years.
Fallout 76 Continues to Grow
Bethesda also highlighted the continued success of Fallout 76, revealing that the game has now surpassed 35 million players while remaining home to millions of active survivors.
Raven Rock won’t be the first Expedition to revisit locations tied to previous Fallout games.
Back in 2022, Bethesda introduced The Pitt, allowing players to return to the industrial wasteland first featured in Fallout 3’s popular DLC of the same name.
More Fallout Content Is on the Way
The announcement is part of Bethesda’s broader roadmap for the Fallout franchise, which currently includes:
- Fallout 3 Remastered
- Fallout: New Vegas Remastered
- Fallout 5 (currently in preproduction)
- A brand-new Fallout game from Obsidian Entertainment
- Fallout 76: Raven Rock expansion
Bethesda has also stated that future Fallout 76 Expeditions will become larger and more meaningful, expanding the game’s world beyond Appalachia while continuing to build connections with the wider Fallout universe.
For Fallout fans, the future is looking busier than ever, with remasters, new games, and a major prequel expansion all officially in development.
