Kreator igre Life is Strange, Don't Nod, suočava se s mogućim novim otkazima

Don’t Nod, the studio widely recognized as the original Life is Strange creator, could be facing another devastating round of layoffs. The French developer and publisher has officially announced a major “transformation programme” as an urgent attempt to address its worsening financial situation.

Things could be getting difficult once again at Don’t Nod.

The French developer and publisher has announced plans to restructure its operations in response to what it describes as “profound changes” across the video game industry and a deterioration of the company’s key financial indicators.

Don’t Nod hasn’t officially announced layoffs yet, but the language surrounding the restructuring strongly suggests that jobs could be affected.

More details are expected on 3. rujna 2026., following meetings between management and employee representatives.

Don’t Nod Announces Major Transformation Programme

In a new financial statement, Don’t Nod confirmed that it is beginning a company-wide transformation initiative designed to adapt its business model to increasingly difficult market conditions.

The company explained:

“Against a backdrop of profound changes in the economic conditions of the video game industry and its funding, coupled with a deterioration in the Group’s key economic indicators, the Company considers it necessary to adapt its operating model.”

The statement doesn’t specify how many employees could be affected or explicitly confirm that layoffs will take place. However, Don’t Nod has called a meeting with its employee representative bodies for Thursday, September 3.

According to the company, this represents the first stage of an information and consultation procedure ahead of the possible implementation of a job-preservation plan. Management has also entered negotiations with the trade union representing employees within the company.

Taken together, those steps suggest that workforce reductions are at least being considered as part of the restructuring.

More Details Are Coming on September 3

We shouldn’t have to wait long to understand exactly what the transformation means for Don’t Nod and its employees. Following meetings with its Board of Directors and employee representatives, the company intends to reveal the key elements and next steps of its transformation plan on September 3 after trading closes.

Until then, the extent of any potential layoffs remains unclear.

It’s also unknown how the restructuring could affect the studio’s games currently in development.

Don’t Nod reportedly already scaled back its plans for Project P14, and another substantial restructuring could potentially have further consequences for the size and scope of its future projects.

Why the Life is Strange Developer is Struggling Financially

Unfortunately, the announcement doesn’t arrive entirely out of nowhere.

Don’t Nod has already experienced layoffs in recent years, including cuts affecting employees at its Montreal studio roughly a year ago.

More recently, the company revealed financial difficulties that raised serious concerns about its available funding and ability to support upcoming projects. Its latest release, Aphelion, launched in April 2026 but appears to have struggled to generate the commercial momentum Don’t Nod needed.

The sci-fi action-adventure followed two astronauts attempting to survive on the planet Persephone, with its protagonists providing different styles of gameplay throughout the adventure.

Critical reception was also relatively mixed.

The combination of disappointing commercial performance, difficult funding conditions and declining financial indicators now appears to have pushed Don’t Nod toward another major restructuring.

The Future of Don’t Nod and the Life is Strange Legacy

The biggest question is what kind of studio emerges from the transformation.

Don’t Nod has built its reputation around narrative-heavy experiences, beginning with games such as Remember Me before achieving worldwide recognition with the original Life is Strange.

The studio later expanded its portfolio with titles including Vampyr, Jusant, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and Aphelion.

Its games haven’t always been enormous commercial successes, but Don’t Nod has maintained a recognizable identity in an industry increasingly dominated by massive franchises and blockbuster budgets.

If workforce reductions form part of the upcoming plan, the consequences could extend beyond the employees directly affected and influence the scale of Don’t Nod’s future projects.

For now, though, layoffs have not been formally confirmed, and the exact scope of the transformation remains unknown.

We should have a much clearer picture when Don’t Nod provides its next official update on 3. rujna 2026..

What do you think Don’t Nod needs to do to stabilize its business while continuing to make the kind of narrative-driven games it has become known for?
