Nintendo has published an official battery replacement guide for its upcoming European Switch 2 model, revealing how users can replace the console’s battery themselves.
Nintendo of Europe has released detailed instructions for replacing the battery inside a revised Nintendo Switch 2 console designed to comply with European regulations.
The new model was previously announced in July 2026 and will feature a user-replaceable battery, allowing owners to replace aging batteries without relying entirely on professional repair services.
How Nintendo Switch 2 Battery Replacement Works
The official Nintendo support guide outlines the process of accessing and removing the console’s internal battery.
However, replacing it will require more than simply opening a battery compartment.
Users must remove multiple screws around the console, including those near the Joy-Con attachment points, before accessing the internal components.
The procedure also exposes parts of the console’s circuit boards, meaning improper handling could potentially damage the system.
Replaceable Battery Comes With Some Trade-Offs
Nintendo previously confirmed that the revised European Switch 2 hardware will have several differences compared to the original model:
- User-replaceable battery for easier long-term maintenance.
- Slightly increased console weight due to hardware changes.
- Slightly reduced battery capacity compared to the existing model.
The changes are intended to meet European battery regulations, which emphasize repairability and easier battery replacement.
Recent regulatory filings have also suggested that Nintendo could introduce replaceable-battery controllers outside Europe, although wider availability remains unconfirmed.
While the revised Switch 2 represents a step toward better repairability, Nintendo’s instructions suggest that battery replacement will still require careful disassembly rather than a simple tool-free swap.
