Ubisoft Renames Creative House 2 to Massive Entertainment

Ubisoft has officially renamed Creative House 2 to Massive Entertainment, bringing the teams behind The Division, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell under a single brand.

The business unit will adopt the name of Ubisoft‘s long-running Swedish studio, which was originally founded in 1997 and has been part of Ubisoft since 2008.

However, Massive Entertainment will now represent considerably more than the Malmö studio.

Development teams working across Sweden, Montreal, Paris and Toronto will operate under the Massive Entertainment name as Ubisoft continues implementing its new Creative House structure.

The Division, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell Under Massive Entertainment

The newly expanded Massive Entertainment will oversee several major Ubisoft franchises:

  • Tom Clancy’s The Division
  • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell
  • March of Giants
  • New original IP

Ubisoft says the teams will share their creative and technological expertise while taking responsibility for the development and long-term growth of these franchises.

The division will be led by Christoph Hartmann, who joined Ubisoft as General Manager of Creative House 2 in June 2026 after previously leading Amazon Games and founding 2K Games.

“Bringing our teams together under one identity gives us the opportunity to combine the creative energy and expertise across Montréal, Paris, Sweden and Toronto,” Hartmann said.

Ubisoft Continues Its Major Restructuring

The change is another step in Ubisoft’s broader restructuring around independently managed Creative Houses, each responsible for specific franchises and development teams.

The company’s biggest properties — Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six — are already managed through Vantage Studios, Ubisoft’s joint venture with Tencent.

Massive Entertainment now becomes the home of several of Ubisoft’s other major franchises while also being tasked with developing new games and original IP.

The restructuring follows several years of cost-cutting at Ubisoft that have included studio closures, layoffs, project delays and game cancellations.

For Massive Entertainment specifically, the new structure significantly expands what the name represents: rather than referring only to the Swedish developer behind The Division, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws, Massive Entertainment is now an international Ubisoft business unit responsible for multiple studios and franchises.
