It looks like Sony is officially shifting back toward a much more aggressive console-exclusive strategy.
According to new information shared by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst has now internally confirmed that major first-party single-player games will remain exclusive to PlayStation platforms moving forward.
And honestly?
This could end up being one of Sony’s biggest strategic changes of the entire PS5 generation.
Sony Is Pulling Back From PC Releases
Back in March, Bloomberg originally reported that Sony was reconsidering its recent push toward PC releases for first-party PlayStation games.
The report claimed the company had concerns regarding:
- Weak PC sales for some titles
- Brand dilution
- Reduced incentive to buy PlayStation hardware
- Losing the “prestige” of PlayStation exclusives
Now, Jason Schreier has added that Hermen Hulst personally confirmed the strategy during a recent PlayStation town hall meeting.
According to the report, future narrative-focused first-party games will launch exclusively on PlayStation consoles without simultaneous PC releases.

Big Upcoming PlayStation Games Will Stay Console Exclusive
That reportedly includes some of Sony’s biggest upcoming projects.
According to Schreier, titles such as:
will remain PlayStation-focused releases.
Wolverine is currently expected to launch first, while Intergalactic was recently rumored to still be roughly two years away.
And honestly?
This feels like Sony fully recommitting to the “only on PlayStation” identity that helped define previous console generations.
Multiplayer Games Will Still Likely Launch on PC
Interestingly, the strategy apparently does not apply to multiplayer-focused projects.
Sony still reportedly plans to bring live-service and multiplayer-heavy games to PC alongside PlayStation releases whenever it makes sense.
Which honestly makes a lot of business sense.
Live-service titles depend heavily on:
- Large player populations
- Ongoing monetization
- Long-term engagement
- Cross-platform communities
Meanwhile, single-player exclusives remain one of Sony’s strongest reasons for players to actually buy a PS5.
Sony Seems Focused on Protecting the PlayStation Brand
Over the past few years, Sony aggressively expanded onto PC through releases like:
But while some ports performed extremely well, others reportedly failed to meet expectations financially.
And according to Bloomberg’s reporting, Sony now appears increasingly concerned that day-one PC launches weaken the overall value of the PlayStation ecosystem itself.
A Massive Shift for PlayStation’s Future
If this strategy remains in place long-term, PlayStation fans may be entering a new era where Sony’s biggest cinematic single-player experiences once again become true console exclusives.
And honestly?
A lot of longtime PlayStation fans will probably love hearing that.
PC players though…
…may not be nearly as happy.
