PlayStation May Finally Be Reviving inFAMOUS, According to New Rumors

After years of fan requests, it looks like PlayStation may finally be preparing to bring back one of its most beloved older franchises.

And yes — we’re talking about inFAMOUS.

According to multiple recent insider claims, Sony is reportedly exploring the return of older first-party IPs, with inFAMOUS now heavily rumored to be among them.

A New inFAMOUS Project Might Already Exist

The newest wave of speculation began after respected VGC journalist Jordan Middler mentioned on the Kinda Funny podcast that he had heard about a potential new inFAMOUS project currently in development.

Interestingly, the project reportedly is not being handled by Sucker Punch Productions, the original studio behind the franchise. According to Middler, the information currently comes from only one source, meaning fans should absolutely remain cautious for now.

Still, based on what he heard, his impression was that the project could involve remakes of the original PS3 games for PS5 — though he admitted that detail was never directly confirmed to him.

And honestly?

That would make a lot of sense.

Fans Have Been Asking for inFAMOUS to Return for Years

The inFAMOUS franchise remains one of the most requested PlayStation revivals online, especially among longtime PS3-era fans.

The series originally became famous for:

  • Open-world superhero gameplay
  • Karma-based choices
  • Fast traversal systems
  • Electric-based combat powers
  • Darker comic-book storytelling

The franchise’s last major release was inFAMOUS Second Son back in 2014 for the PS4, alongside the standalone First Light expansion.

Since then, Sucker Punch has shifted almost entirely toward the hugely successful Ghost franchise.

PlayStation Is Apparently Exploring Older IP Revivals

The rumors gained even more momentum after reliable insider NateTheHate stated on X that:

“There is truth to Sony exploring & considering reviving some of their older, unused IPs.”

While he did not specifically confirm which franchises are returning, fans immediately started naming the same legendary PlayStation series over and over again:

  • inFAMOUS
  • Sly Cooper
  • Jak and Daxter
  • Ape Escape

And honestly?

PlayStation is sitting on a ridiculous number of dormant franchises that fans would instantly buy again.

Remakes Might Be the Smartest Approach

If the rumors are true, remaking the original two inFAMOUS games for modern hardware could actually be the perfect way to test interest in the franchise again.

Especially considering how much superhero-style traversal and open-world combat have evolved since the PS3 era.

A fully modernized version of Empire City with PS5 visuals, faster movement, destructible environments, and DualSense features could honestly feel incredible.

At the moment, however, nothing has been officially confirmed by Sony.

And as always with insider reports, there is still the possibility the project was changed, delayed, or quietly canceled internally.

Still…

The fact multiple insiders are suddenly talking about older PlayStation IP revivals at the same time definitely feels interesting.
