One of the biggest surprises from this year’s Summer Game Fest wasn’t a sequel, remake, or established franchise.
Instead, it was Blood Message, a brand-new cinematic action-adventure game from 24 Entertainment Lin’an and NetEase Games, which returned with an impressive new story trailer that immediately grabbed players’ attention.
It’s easy to see why some fans are already calling it “Crimson Desert meets Black Myth: Wukong.”
NetEase’s First Major Single-Player AAA Game
Blood Message represents a significant shift for NetEase.
While the publisher is best known for multiplayer-focused titles such as Once Human, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, and Where Winds Meet, this project marks its first major AAA single-player production.
Based on the latest footage, the company appears determined to make a strong first impression.
The trailer showcased breathtaking visuals, cinematic storytelling, brutal combat sequences, and an emotional narrative that feels very different from NetEase’s previous projects.
A Story About Ordinary Heroes
Unlike many historical action games that focus on legendary warriors or famous generals, Blood Message takes a different approach.
The game follows a nameless messenger who is forced to embark on a dangerous journey across a war-torn land alongside his young son.
Their mission is simple in theory: deliver an important message.
Actually accomplishing it is another story entirely.
Throughout the adventure, players will battle hostile armies, survive harsh environments, and travel across more than a thousand miles while facing impossible odds at every turn.

Inspired by Real Chinese History
One of the most intriguing aspects of Blood Message is its historical inspiration.
24 Entertainment Lin’an has stated that the game focuses on the unsung heroes often forgotten by history books rather than the rulers and military leaders who typically dominate historical narratives.
That perspective appears to be at the heart of the game’s story, creating a more personal and emotional experience than many large-scale war epics.
And honestly?
The father-and-son dynamic shown throughout the trailer already looks like it could become one of the game’s biggest strengths.
Stealth, Survival, and Brutal Combat
The new footage also provided another look at the gameplay.
Blood Message appears to blend stealth mechanics, survival elements, and fast-paced melee combat into a single experience.
Combat sequences shown during the trailer featured cinematic sword fights, large-scale battles, and several brutal takedowns that immediately drew comparisons to both Black Myth: Wukong and Crimson Desert.
At the same time, the game’s gorgeous environments and cinematic presentation help it stand apart from many other action-adventure titles currently in development.
One of Summer Game Fest’s Biggest Surprises
While many players tuned into Summer Game Fest expecting updates on established franchises, Blood Message managed to emerge as one of the event’s most talked-about reveals.
The combination of stunning visuals, grounded storytelling, historical inspiration, and impressive combat has quickly turned the project into one to watch.
A release date has not yet been announced.
But after seeing this latest trailer, it’s safe to say Blood Message has firmly placed itself on the radar of action-adventure fans heading into 2027.
