The world of SAW is officially coming back to gaming.
During this year’s Summer Game Fest, developers unveiled SAW: Genesis, a new asymmetrical survival horror game that brings the franchise’s signature brutality, traps, and psychological terror into a competitive multiplayer experience.
This might be one of the most disturbing games showcased during the entire event.
A Deadly 3v1 Survival Experience
SAW: Genesis is built around a 3-versus-1 multiplayer format.
Players can either take control of The Judge, an early architect of the twisted philosophy that would eventually inspire Jigsaw, or join a group of three survivors known as The Accused.
Each match takes place inside a deadly labyrinth packed with traps, puzzles, and horrific choices that force players to decide just how much they’re willing to sacrifice in order to survive.
And yes, sacrifice is more than just a figure of speech.
Survival Comes at a Cost
One of the game’s most unique features is its injury system.
According to the developers, players can permanently lose body parts during matches while attempting to escape the Judge’s trials.
Whether it’s a hand, an arm, or something even worse, surviving often means paying a terrible price.
The reveal trailer showcased gruesome traps, graphic injuries, and several moments that looked ripped straight from the films.
If you’re familiar with the SAW franchise, you’ll know that’s exactly the point.

Set After World War I
Unlike previous SAW games, Genesis takes place shortly after World War I, offering a new historical setting for the franchise.
This period serves as the backdrop for the origins of many of the philosophies and twisted moral experiments that would later become synonymous with Jigsaw’s legacy.
The result is a darker and more grounded atmosphere that still manages to feel unmistakably SAW.
Procedurally Generated Maps Keep Players Guessing
To ensure that no two matches play out the same way, SAW: Genesis uses procedurally generated maps.
Trap locations, escape routes, and environmental hazards can change from match to match, forcing survivors to constantly adapt rather than relying on memorization.
For the Judge, it creates new opportunities to manipulate, divide, and hunt players in unexpected ways.
A Different Kind of Horror Multiplayer Game
While comparisons to games such as Dead by Daylight are inevitable, SAW: Genesis appears to be focusing much more heavily on teamwork, resource management, and physical consequences.
The possibility of losing limbs, sacrificing teammates, or making impossible moral choices feels perfectly aligned with the themes that made the films so popular.
It looks like one of the few multiplayer horror games willing to fully embrace the brutality of its source material.
One of Summer Game Fest’s Most Shocking Reveals
Summer Game Fest delivered no shortage of surprises, but SAW: Genesis immediately stood out thanks to its unique premise and unapologetically gruesome presentation.
For horror fans, especially those who grew up watching the SAW films, the idea of surviving a procedurally generated death trap alongside friends sounds like a recipe for absolute chaos.
Whether you’re setting the traps or desperately trying to escape them, SAW: Genesis looks ready to put players through a nightmare when it eventually launches.
