The world of Among Us is getting a lot bigger.
During this year’s Summer Game Fest, developer Innersloth surprised fans by unveiling Among Us Story: On Guard, a brand-new story-driven adventure set in the popular social deduction universe.
And as if that wasn’t enough, the long-awaited Among Us animated series was also stealth-launched on the very same day.
Honestly, few people saw either announcement coming.
Among Us Goes Single-Player
Since its explosive rise in popularity during the global pandemic, Among Us has been almost entirely focused on multiplayer deception, teamwork, and betrayal.
On Guard changes that.
The newly announced title shifts the franchise into a narrative-driven experience centered around solving a mysterious crime aboard a familiar-looking space station.
The reveal trailer was relatively short, but it showcased updated visuals, returning crewmates, suspicious activity, and what appears to be a much greater emphasis on investigation and storytelling than previous games in the series.
For longtime fans, it looks like an opportunity to explore the universe of Among Us in a way that simply wasn’t possible in the multiplayer game.
A Mystery Waiting to Be Solved
While details remain limited, the basic premise revolves around uncovering the truth behind a crime that has taken place aboard the station.
Rather than trying to identify an impostor among friends, players will be tasked with gathering clues, questioning suspects, and piecing together what really happened.
The trailer hints at plenty of secrets, suspicious characters, and unexpected twists waiting to be uncovered.
The concept feels like a natural evolution for a franchise built entirely around deception and deduction.

Available to Wishlist Now
Although Innersloth stopped short of announcing a release date, players can already add Among Us Story: On Guard to their Steam wishlist.
More gameplay details are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
The Among Us Animated Series Is Out Right Now
In perhaps an even bigger surprise, Summer Game Fest also confirmed that the official Among Us animated series is now available to stream on Paramount+.
Many fans noticed the show quietly appeared on the platform before any major announcement was made, leading to confusion across social media.
As it turns out, the low-key launch was intentional.
The developers and production team were saving the official reveal for Summer Game Fest itself.
A Franchise That Keeps Growing
Few games have had the cultural impact of Among Us.
Originally released in 2018, the game exploded in popularity during 2020, becoming one of the defining multiplayer experiences of the pandemic era and introducing millions of players to the concepts of social deduction and hidden roles.
Now, with both a new story-focused game and an animated series expanding the universe, it’s clear that Innersloth has much bigger plans for the franchise.
A few years ago, the idea of an Among Us story game and television series would have sounded completely ridiculous.
Today, it somehow feels perfectly normal.
