The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to deliver impressive sales figures, with Nintendo confirming that its latest console has now sold more than 23 million units worldwide.
More than a year after its June 2025 launch, the Switch 2 continues to perform strongly and remains ahead of the original Nintendo Switch when comparing both systems at similar stages of their respective lifecycles.
Nintendo revealed the latest hardware numbers alongside new software and player statistics in its first financial report for FY27.
Nintendo Switch 2 Reaches 23.68 Million Sales
According to Nintendo’s latest financial results, the Switch 2 has now sold 23.68 million units worldwide since its launch.
During the most recent quarter alone, Nintendo sold another 3.82 million Switch 2 consoles.
Quarterly hardware sales were down 34.4% year-over-year, but there is an obvious reason for the decline. The same quarter last year included the immediate aftermath of the Switch 2’s launch, when demand and excitement surrounding the new hardware were at their highest.
Even with that comparison, Nintendo says adoption of the console remains strong as Switch 2 enters its second year on the market.
Switch 2 Continues to Outperform the Original Switch
Perhaps the most encouraging statistic for Nintendo is how Switch 2 compares to its hugely successful predecessor.
Nintendo says hardware performance remains favorable compared to the original Nintendo Switch at the same stage of its lifecycle.
That’s an impressive benchmark considering the first Switch ultimately became one of the best-selling consoles in gaming history.
New first-party releases are continuing to help drive Switch 2 hardware sales, with Nintendo maintaining a steady flow of software designed specifically for the new system.
Price Increase Hasn’t Stopped Switch 2 Sales
The strong performance also comes despite Nintendo introducing hardware price revisions in Japan on May 25.
Price increases can typically have a noticeable impact on console demand, but Nintendo says Switch 2 sell-through has remained solid following the changes.
The company will now look to maintain that momentum throughout the remainder of FY27 with new first-party games and major third-party releases arriving on the platform.
Nintendo Still Has Around 130 Million Active Players
Nintendo’s enormous player ecosystem also remains remarkably stable.
According to the latest figures, the company recorded approximately 130 million annual playing users between June 2025 and June 2026.
That figure includes players across Nintendo’s current ecosystem and demonstrates that the transition to Switch 2 hasn’t significantly reduced engagement across the company’s platforms.
Maintaining more than 100 million annual players also gives Nintendo an enormous existing audience to gradually move toward its latest hardware.
