According to the official The Game Awards FAQ, games must be commercially available by November 20, 2026, at 9 PM PT to qualify for this year’s nominations.
With GTA 6 scheduled to launch on November 19, the game falls within the eligibility window.
GTA 6 Qualifies for The Game Awards 2026
The updated rules establish two important deadlines:
- November 20, 2026, at 9 PM PT: General award eligibility deadline.
- November 30, 2026: Deadline for the Players’ Voice category.
These dates mean GTA 6 can be considered for categories including Game of the Year, provided it meets the remaining eligibility requirements.
However, eligibility does not guarantee a nomination.
The timing could still create challenges for voting journalists and critics, who may have limited opportunities to evaluate Rockstar’s massive open-world game before submitting their selections.
GTA 6 Reviews Could Arrive Before Launch
A recent Insider Gaming report claimed that GTA 6 reviews will be published before November 19, although the exact embargo date remains undisclosed.
Early review access could give participating critics additional time to evaluate the game ahead of The Game Awards voting process.
