Rockstar Games has revealed that GTA 6 will feature a much more flexible robbery system, allowing Jason and Lucia to target stores, banks and other locations throughout Leonida.
Speaking with IGN, Rockstar North Head of Development Rob Nelson shared new details about how crime works in Grand Theft Auto 6, suggesting players will have significantly more freedom than in previous entries.
“You can rob pretty much anything. So we can go into this place where you buy headphones, for example, and rob it,” Nelson explained.

GTA 6 Robberies Can Be Completed Alone or Together
Unlike GTA 5, where larger heists were generally tied to scripted missions, GTA 6 will feature a wider variety of robbery opportunities throughout its open world.
Nelson confirmed that Jason and Lucia can carry out robberies together or independently, with targets including shops, banks and payday loan businesses.
Players will also have different ways to approach each robbery. For example, a safe can be opened using explosives for a faster escape, although doing so attracts attention and may damage the money inside.
Alternatively, players can interrogate employees or locate a safe code to secure a larger payout.
However, taking too long could result in police surrounding the location, forcing players to improvise their escape.
Robbery opportunities can also emerge naturally while exploring Leonida, with Jason or Lucia occasionally suggesting potential targets.
These systems are part of Rockstar‘s broader effort to make GTA 6’s open world more reactive and unpredictable.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
