Rumor: Sony Could Be Bringing Back Ape Escape

Sony could be preparing to revive Ape Escape as part of its plans to bring back dormant PlayStation franchises, according to insider NateTheHate. However, Team Asobi apparently isn’t developing the rumored project.

The speculation started after NateTheHate responded to a discussion about recent hints surrounding a possible Ape Escape return.

“As I said a while ago, Sony is looking to bring back some dormant franchises,” Nate said.

While this isn’t direct confirmation that a new Ape Escape is in development, his follow-up comments provided additional details about the project being discussed.

Team Asobi Isn’t Behind the Rumored Project

When asked whether Team Asobi could be developing the game, Nate simply responded:

“Not Asobi.”

He also said Bandai Namco isn’t involved based on the information he previously received, although he noted that he would need to check again to be completely certain.

“Bamco is not involved, to my knowledge. But I’d have to check further to be 100% certain, as it has been a while since I last checked in on the project.”

The reference to “the project” is particularly notable, although Nate hasn’t explicitly confirmed what form a potential Ape Escape revival could take.

Sony hasn’t announced a new Ape Escape game, remake or remaster, so the information should currently be treated strictly as a rumor.

The franchise has remained largely dormant for more than a decade, making it one of several classic PlayStation properties fans have been waiting to see return.
