Game Freak has released a brand-new trailer for Beast of Reincarnation, offering the most detailed look yet at the action RPG’s combat mechanics ahead of its launch later this year.
Unlike the studio’s Pokémon titles, Beast of Reincarnation focuses on fast-paced real-time combat, defensive timing, and strategic abilities shared between its two main characters, Emma and her mysterious companion Koo.
The latest gameplay showcase explains how players will battle enemies, defeat massive bosses, and unlock powerful new abilities throughout the adventure.

Combat Revolves Around Health and Down Gauges
Every enemy in Beast of Reincarnation features two separate meters.
The first is a traditional Health Gauge, which determines how much damage an enemy can take before being defeated.
Alongside it is the Down Gauge, which fills as players land successful attacks. Once completely filled, enemies become vulnerable to devastating takedown attacks, functioning similarly to the stagger systems seen in many modern action RPGs.
Mastering both gauges will be essential for surviving tougher encounters.
Perfect Parries Power Up Koo
Defensive gameplay plays a major role in Beast of Reincarnation.
Players can parry incoming attacks, completely negating damage if their timing is precise.
Successful parries also charge Koo’s FP Gauge, which unlocks the companion’s unique abilities.
Once the meter is full, players can activate Bloom Art, a powerful combat skill that temporarily slows time, allowing players to carefully choose their next move before unleashing devastating attacks.
Crowd Control and Strategic Abilities
When facing groups of enemies, Koo provides additional support through a special ability known as Higanbana Roots.
This technique temporarily immobilizes surrounding enemies, giving Emma the opportunity to eliminate them before they can retaliate.
The combination of crowd control, parries, and time-slowing abilities appears to form the core of the game’s combat system.
Massive Boss Battles Await
Each region in Beast of Reincarnation features a powerful boss encounter.
These towering enemies deliver devastating attacks capable of dealing massive damage, but players can still counter them through perfectly timed parries.
During boss fights, Bloom Art becomes especially valuable, slowing time and creating opportunities to execute special attacks while carefully reading the enemy’s next move.
Defeating bosses also rewards players with brand-new Bloom Art abilities for Koo, expanding the available combat options as the adventure progresses.
Unlock New Skills Through Progression
Combat doesn’t just reward experience—it also unlocks new abilities.
Players earn SP Points by defeating enemies, which can be invested in Emma’s growing skill tree to unlock additional techniques and combat upgrades.
The trailer also showcased two newly acquired abilities:
- Sakura Javelin, a Bloom Art earned after defeating a boss.
- Helm Splitter, a new combat skill unlocked by spending SP Points.
With its combination of real-time action, precise parrying, companion abilities, and RPG progression, Beast of Reincarnation is shaping up to offer a much deeper combat system than many expected from Game Freak’s first major action RPG.
