Bloober Team has released a brand-new developer diary for Cronos: Lazarus, offering an in-depth look at the upcoming expansion’s gameplay, narrative, and powerful new abilities.
The latest episode, titled “Becoming the Warden,” showcases how the DLC evolves the formula established in Cronos: A New Dawn, introducing a more action-oriented experience while expanding the game’s universe with new mechanics, weapons, and enemies.
Cronos: Lazarus Shifts Toward Action
According to Bloober Team, Cronos: Lazarus is designed to provide players with “a different flavor” of the original game.
Rather than controlling the Traveler, players will step into the role of the Pathfinder, a far more powerful character whose abilities encourage a significantly more aggressive playstyle.
The developers explained that while the original game emphasized careful exploration and survival, Lazarus gives players greater freedom to engage enemies head-on without sacrificing the emotional storytelling that defines the Cronos universe.

New Ability: Teleportation
One of the biggest additions is Teleportation.
The Pathfinder can instantly blink across the environment, allowing players to:
- Reach previously inaccessible areas
- Navigate levels much faster
- Reposition during combat
- Appear behind enemies for surprise attacks
Bloober Team described the mechanic as a major evolution of traversal that also dramatically changes combat encounters.
New Ability: Decoy
Another powerful addition is Decoy.
The Pathfinder can create a copy of himself that distracts nearby enemies, opening opportunities to flank or eliminate opponents before they realize what happened.
The ability also works alongside Teleportation, creating new tactical options for crowd control and stealth-inspired combat.
New Weapon: Gladius
Players will also gain access to an entirely new melee weapon called the Gladius.
Bloober Team describes it as a significantly deadlier evolution of the Dagger featured in the original game, offering faster, more lethal close-quarters combat.
Gameplay shown in the developer diary highlights the weapon’s speed and brutality against multiple enemy types.
A More Personal Story
The new dev diary also reveals several story details.
The Pathfinder embarks on a deeply personal mission, one that places him directly in conflict with The Collective.
Recognizing the threat he poses, The Collective dispatches a brand-new enemy specifically engineered to hunt him down.
Bloober Team describes the expansion’s central narrative as “the hunter becoming the hunted,” with players constantly pursued by an exceptionally dangerous new foe.
Unlike the familiar Orphans, this mysterious envoy has been created with one purpose: eliminating the Pathfinder at any cost.
The developers teased that the confrontation between the two will eventually become extremely brutal, warning players that things will “get bloody.”
