Gamescom Directors Aren’t Worried About GTA 6 Netflix Event Stealing the Spotlight

GTA 6’s massive Netflix event will take place during Gamescom 2026, but Gamescom executives aren’t worried about Rockstar’s juggernaut stealing attention from one of gaming’s biggest annual events.

Gamescom 2026 is almost here, bringing together hundreds of developers, publishers, upcoming games, announcements, and world premieres. However, there’s one enormous elephant in the room this year: Grand Theft Auto 6.

Rockstar Games is preparing an extended look at GTA 6 that will initially be available exclusively through Netflix. The streaming platform will have a six-hour exclusivity window before the presentation becomes available elsewhere, including Rockstar’s YouTube channel.

Given GTA 6’s unprecedented level of anticipation, it would be understandable if Gamescom organizers were slightly nervous.

Apparently, they aren’t.

Gamescom Says Players Will Return After Watching GTA 6

Speaking with GamesRadar+, Gamescom brand director Stefan Heikhaus acknowledged that GTA 6 will inevitably pull some attention away from Gamescom’s digital coverage.

However, he believes the sheer scale and variety of Gamescom means viewers will quickly return once Rockstar’s presentation is over.

“At events like Gamescom, not only can you experience one game, but thousands of games, or at least hundreds. And this is the important difference. Of course, GTA will take some visibility and awareness from the digital Gamescom. But I believe that quickly, people will come back to Gamescom once they have seen the GTA content, because there are so many things, so many world premieres, so much new stuff to see, to experience. Hundreds of studios and companies.”

It’s a fair distinction.

GTA 6 might be the biggest individual game on the calendar, but Gamescom represents an entire industry. Players tuning into Rockstar’s presentation will still have hundreds of other upcoming releases, trailers, announcements, interviews, and gameplay demonstrations to follow throughout the event.

Heikhaus also pointed out that not every player is solely interested in GTA 6. While Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster commands an enormous audience, gaming remains far too broad for one title to completely dominate everyone’s attention.

The Netflix partnership makes the situation particularly interesting this year.

Rockstar and Take-Two are taking an unusual approach by giving Netflix the first six hours of exclusivity for the GTA 6 Extended Look, before the presentation arrives on YouTube and potentially other platforms.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously described the deal as a “first-of-its-kind partnership with Netflix,” making the presentation almost an event within an event during one of the busiest weeks on the gaming calendar.

Gamescom 2026 Schedule Reveals Packed Week of Gaming Showcases

There is little doubt that GTA 6 will dominate social media and gaming conversations when the extended look arrives. The game has already generated extraordinary attention through official trailers, announcements, and a seemingly endless stream of leaks.

But Gamescom’s argument is simple: one gigantic game can’t replace hundreds of them.

Once fans have seen what Rockstar has prepared, Gamescom expects them to come straight back for everything else the industry has to show.

Do you think GTA 6 will overshadow Gamescom 2026, or will there be enough major announcements to keep the spotlight on both? Let us know in the comments below.
