Blood of Dawnwalker Won’t Have a 60 FPS Mode on Consoles (will have)

The Blood of Dawnwalker will not feature a 60 FPS performance mode on consoles, with PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X players instead limited to 30 FPS or 40 FPS options.

Rebel Wolves’ highly anticipated open-world RPG is now less than two weeks away from its September 3, 2026 release, and the developer has started revealing the final technical details ahead of launch.

Unfortunately, the latest news probably isn’t what console players were hoping to hear.

Despite offering multiple graphics modes, The Blood of Dawnwalker won’t have a traditional 60 FPS Performance Mode on consoles, and even the more powerful PS5 Pro won’t be able to push the game beyond 40 FPS.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Runs at Up to 40 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X

Rebel Wolves confirmed the console performance targets in a new video showcasing footage captured from the console versions of The Blood of Dawnwalker.

Both PS5 and Xbox Series X will offer two graphics modes at launch:

  • Quality Mode – Dynamic 4K at 30 FPS
  • Balanced Mode – Dynamic 4K at 40 FPS

This means players looking for the smoother 60 FPS experience commonly offered by current-generation console games won’t have that option.

The 40 FPS Balanced Mode should provide a noticeably smoother experience than 30 FPS, particularly when played on a compatible 120Hz display, but it still falls well short of the 60 FPS target many players now expect from a dedicated Performance Mode.

Rebel Wolves hasn’t yet provided detailed performance information for the Xbox Series S, so it’s unclear what resolution and frame-rate targets Microsoft’s less powerful console will offer.

PS5 Pro Also Doesn’t Get a 60 FPS Mode

Perhaps the biggest surprise involves the PlayStation 5 Pro.

Despite Sony’s upgraded console offering considerably more graphical horsepower than the standard PS5, The Blood of Dawnwalker will still be limited to the same two basic performance targets:

  • Quality Mode – Dynamic 4K at 30 FPS
  • Balanced Mode – Dynamic 4K at 40 FPS

The PS5 Pro versions of both modes will instead benefit from enhanced visual quality.

Rebel Wolves hasn’t detailed exactly how substantial those graphical improvements will be, but players hoping the additional power of the PS5 Pro would provide a 60 FPS option are out of luck, at least at launch.

The announcement has already generated criticism from players, with many comments underneath the console footage asking for an additional mode that sacrifices resolution and graphical fidelity in favor of a higher frame rate.

For an action RPG featuring melee combat, dodging, exploration, and potentially demanding encounters, it’s understandable why some players would prefer something closer to 1080p or 1440p at 60 FPS rather than Dynamic 4K at 30 or 40 FPS.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that Rebel Wolves could introduce additional performance options through post-launch updates, but no 60 FPS console mode has currently been announced.

The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on September 3, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Are 30 FPS and 40 FPS modes enough for The Blood of Dawnwalker, or would you sacrifice resolution to play at 60 FPS? Let us know in the comments below.
