Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that Control Resonant players on PlayStation 5 will get to jump into the game before everyone else.
Following the game’s major appearance during June’s PlayStation State of Play showcase, new details have revealed that PS5 users who purchase a specific edition of the game will receive exclusive early access ahead of launch.
And honestly?
Not everyone is happy about it.
PS5 Players Get 48 Hours of Early Access
According to the official PlayStation Blog, players who pre-order the Control Resonant Digital Deluxe Edition on PS5 will receive 48 hours of early access before the game’s global launch.
The game itself is scheduled to release on:
- PS5
- XBOX Series X|S
- PC
on September 24, 2026.
However, PlayStation players purchasing the Deluxe Edition will effectively begin playing two days earlier.
Remedy executive Thomas Puha later confirmed on social media that this early access bonus is currently exclusive to PlayStation.
PC and XBOX Players Aren’t Happy
The announcement immediately sparked criticism online.
Many players on PC and XBOX questioned why a story-driven Remedy title would receive platform-exclusive early access, especially considering the game is launching simultaneously across all major platforms.
Some users even threatened to cancel their pre-orders after learning they would not receive the same bonus access period.
And honestly?
Platform-exclusive early access has become one of the most controversial marketing strategies in gaming over the last few years.
While publishers often view it as an attractive pre-order incentive, many players simply see it as paying extra to avoid an artificial delay.
Dylan Faden Takes the Lead This Time
Control Resonant serves as a direct follow-up to Remedy’s critically acclaimed 2019 action-adventure title, Control.
This time, players step into the role of Dylan Faden, brother of Control protagonist Jesse Faden.
According to Remedy, while Dylan serves as the main playable character driving the story forward, Jesse remains a crucial part of the narrative.
The studio explained:
“The Fadens’ arcs revolve around each other, and that’s what propels their shared story.”
In other words, even though Dylan is now in the spotlight, Control remains very much a story about both siblings.
Jesse Faden Still Plays a Major Role
Fans worried about Jesse being sidelined can probably relax.
Remedy has already confirmed that Jesse remains central to the larger narrative and continues to influence the events unfolding throughout the game.
The developers describe the story as both siblings confronting their destinies while facing an entirely new existential threat.
And honestly?
Considering how beloved Jesse became after the original Control, it would have been difficult to imagine a sequel that completely removed her from the picture.
Remedy’s Biggest Release Since Alan Wake 2
Control Resonant is shaping up to be one of Remedy’s most important releases yet.
The studio is coming off the success of:
- Control
- Alan Wake Remastered
- Alan Wake 2
- The Final Draft expansion
And now it appears ready to expand its connected universe even further.
Whether players agree with the PS5-exclusive early access strategy or not, there’s no denying that anticipation for Control Resonant is growing rapidly.
The only question now is whether those extra 48 hours will be enough to convince fans on PlayStation to upgrade to the Deluxe Edition.
