Ezio Auditore Could Reportedly Return in Assassin’s Creed Hexe

A brand-new rumor claims that Ezio Auditore, arguably the most beloved character in the history of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, may somehow return in the upcoming title Assassin’s Creed Hexe.

The reports come from a series of social media posts and leaks connected to a Ubisoft insider known as “Rogue,” who previously shared information related to projects like Far Cry and XDefiant.

As always with Assassin’s Creed leaks — especially ones involving Ezio — it’s probably best to keep a healthy amount of skepticism ready.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe Rumors Continue Growing

According to posts summarized on the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit, the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Hexe may not actually be named Elsa, as previous leaks suggested.

Instead, the reports claim her real name is Anika, with “Elsa” allegedly being an internal placeholder name during development.

The biggest twist, however, is the claim that Anika is supposedly a descendant of Claudia Auditore, Ezio’s sister from Assassin’s Creed II and later a member of the Assassin Brotherhood.

That alone immediately sparked massive speculation among longtime fans.

“Ezio Auditore Is 100% Returning”

The boldest claim from the leak simply states:

“Ezio is 100% returning.”

According to the rumors, Ezio may appear throughout the game as some form of guide or spiritual figure connected to Anika’s journey.

Leaked voice line references were also reportedly shared online, although none of them have been officially verified.

Timeline Problems Already Raising Questions

Naturally, many fans quickly pointed out a major issue with the rumor: the timeline.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe is heavily rumored to focus on the German witch trials, which historically took place well over 100 years after Ezio’s death.

However, Assassin’s Creed has never been entirely strict about time or reality when it comes to legacy characters.

Examples already exist throughout the franchise, including:

Because of that, fans are already theorizing that Ezio could return through:

  • A ghostly vision
  • An Animus memory corruption
  • Isu technology
  • Hallucinations
  • Spiritual symbolism tied to Hexe’s darker themes

Ubisoft Already Showed Ezio’s Death

Longtime fans will remember that Ubisoft technically already concluded Ezio’s story in the animated short film Assassin’s Creed Embers, released back in 2011.

The short depicted Ezio living peacefully in old age before eventually passing away, officially bringing his story to an emotional close.

That’s why many fans are skeptical Ubisoft would fully resurrect him physically — though a symbolic or supernatural appearance feels much more believable within Assassin’s Creed lore.

Hexe Expected to Be the Darkest Assassin’s Creed Yet

Assassin’s Creed Hexe is already shaping up to be one of Ubisoft’s most unusual entries in the franchise.

The game is rumored to heavily focus on:

  • Witchcraft
  • Fear
  • Psychological horror
  • Persecution during the witch trials

Recent reports also claimed Ubisoft shifted the project away from fully magical fantasy elements toward a more grounded interpretation involving alchemy and paranoia instead.

Whether Ezio truly returns or not, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Hexe could end up being one of the strangest — and potentially most fascinating — Assassin’s Creed games ever made.
