Fable Officially Delayed to 2027 by XBOX

After weeks of rumors and speculation, XBOX has officially confirmed that Fable will no longer launch in 2026.

Instead, Playground Games’ highly anticipated RPG reboot has been pushed into February 2027.

The timing of this delay may not be a coincidence.

XBOX Confirms Fable Has Been Delayed

The announcement came directly from XBOX, which revealed that Fable’s release window has shifted from Autumn 2026 to February 2027.

According to the company, the additional development time is being given to ensure the game receives:

“The dedicated moment it deserves.”

While XBOX did not provide a specific release date, the new February 2027 launch window is now official.

Those GTA 6 Rumors Suddenly Look Accurate

Interestingly, the delay follows rumors that surfaced earlier this year claiming Microsoft was internally reconsidering Fable’s launch timing due to the enormous shadow being cast by Grand Theft Auto VI.

At the time, those reports were publicly pushed back against by developers, who continued referencing a 2026 launch window.

However, with GTA 6 currently scheduled for November 19, 2026, it’s difficult not to wonder whether Microsoft’s decision was influenced by Rockstar’s release plans.

Very few games would willingly choose to launch anywhere near GTA 6.

Fans Won’t Have to Wait Long for New Gameplay

The good news is that players won’t be left completely in the dark.

XBOX confirmed that Fable will receive a major new showcase during the upcoming XBOX Games Showcase event this June.

That means fans can expect:

  • New gameplay footage
  • Updated visuals
  • Story details
  • Potential release information
  • A deeper look at Albion

And honestly, after years of waiting, that’s probably what most players care about right now.

Playground Games Is Building One of XBOX’s Biggest RPGs

The reboot remains one of Microsoft’s most important first-party projects.

Developed by Playground Games, the studio behind the hugely successful Forza Horizon franchise, Fable is expected to modernize the beloved fantasy RPG series while maintaining its signature humor and charm.

Recent reports have also revealed:

  • Blizzard’s cinematics team is assisting development
  • A Nintendo Switch 2 version is being considered
  • The game recently received a South Korean age rating

All signs suggest development is progressing steadily despite the delay.

XBOX’s 2026 Lineup Is Still Packed

With such a crowded release calendar already in place, giving Fable extra time may ultimately prove to be the smartest move for both the game and its players.

If the delay helps Playground Games deliver the definitive Fable experience, most fans will probably be willing to wait a few extra months.
