More than a decade after its original launch, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to achieve milestones that most games can only dream about.
According to the latest financial results from CD Projekt Red, the legendary RPG has now surpassed 65 million copies sold worldwide, further cementing its place among the best-selling video games of all time.
With a brand-new expansion arriving next year, Geralt’s biggest adventure may not be done growing just yet.
The Witcher 3 Added Another 5 Million Sales in a Year
The latest earnings report reveals that The Witcher 3 has climbed from 60 million copies sold last year to an incredible 65 million today.
That means an 11-year-old single-player RPG managed to sell another 5 million copies in just twelve months.
For comparison, many modern AAA releases never reach those numbers throughout their entire lifetime.
The achievement places The Witcher 3 firmly among the top-selling games ever created and further reinforces its reputation as one of the most influential RPGs in gaming history.
Songs of the Past Could Drive Sales Even Higher
The timing of the sales milestone is particularly interesting because CD Projekt Red recently surprised the gaming world by announcing Songs of the Past, a brand-new expansion coming to The Witcher 3 in 2027.
Unlike smaller content updates, CDPR has repeatedly emphasized that Songs of the Past should be viewed as a full expansion rather than traditional DLC.
According to CDPR Social Media Manager Marcin Łukaszewski, the studio considers DLC to be smaller additions such as cosmetics or bonus items, while expansions are:
“Major pieces of content providing lots of hours of gameplay, including new story, characters, etc.”
That sounds much closer to Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine than a simple content pack.
First Gameplay Reveal Confirmed for Gamescom 2026
Fans won’t have to wait long to learn more about Geralt’s unexpected return.
CD Projekt Red has already confirmed that Songs of the Past will be showcased during Gamescom 2026.
The announcement was made through the official Witcher social channels, where players were invited to visit CDPR’s entertainment area during the event.
At the moment, it’s unclear whether the showcase will feature:
- A cinematic trailer
- Gameplay footage
- A live demo
- A playable public build
But one thing is certain: Gamescom just became significantly more exciting for Witcher fans.
Cyberpunk and Witcher Continue Carrying CDPR
The earnings report also highlights how important CD Projekt Red’s two flagship franchises remain.
The company generated approximately 191 million PLN during the first quarter of 2026, representing a 6% year-over-year increase.
According to CDPR’s CFO, much of that revenue came from:
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Phantom Liberty
- The Witcher 3
- Xbox Game Pass licensing agreements
Meanwhile, the studio continues expanding development teams across multiple projects, adding 42 additional developers between February and April alone.
Geralt’s Journey Still Isn’t Over
Very few games remain culturally relevant eleven years after release.
Even fewer continue selling millions of copies annually.
Yet somehow, The Witcher 3 keeps finding new audiences while convincing existing fans to return once again.
Between 65 million copies sold, a brand-new expansion, Gamescom reveals, and The Witcher 4 looming on the horizon, it feels like CD Projekt Red is carefully setting the stage for the franchise’s next chapter.
Few RPGs have ever earned a victory lap quite like this one.
