Publisher 4Divinity and developer Eschatology Entertainment have officially unveiled Guns of Eschaton, an ambitious new first-person shooter that blends Souls-like combat with a dark, post-apocalyptic take on the American frontier.
The reveal trailer introduces players to the “Dying West,” a haunting world created alongside the late Viktor Antonov, the legendary art director best known for his work on Half-Life 2 and Dishonored.
A Souls-Like FPS Set in the Dying West
Guns of Eschaton takes players across a devastated version of America where civilization has collapsed and supernatural horrors roam the landscape.
Rather than focusing purely on fast-paced gunplay, the game combines:
- Methodical Souls-like combat
- First-person shooting
- Character progression
- Build customization
- Challenging boss encounters
- Cooperative multiplayer
The result is a unique blend of genres that aims to deliver a demanding but rewarding action experience.
Viktor Antonov’s Final Creative Vision
Perhaps the most significant aspect of Guns of Eschaton is its connection to Viktor Antonov, whose iconic artistic style helped define some of gaming’s most memorable worlds.
According to studio head Fuad Kuliev, Guns of Eschaton became Antonov’s final major project before his passing.
Kuliev said:
“We are incredibly honoured to be revealing Guns of Eschaton, the final project shaped by the extraordinary vision of Viktor Antonov.”
He explained that the game’s world, themes, and visual identity were developed alongside Antonov from the earliest stages of production.
“Viktor’s imagination and creative legacy have been a constant source of inspiration throughout development.”
Brutal Combat and Character Builds
Players will battle everything from smaller enemy groups to massive nightmarish creatures while exploring the game’s mysterious frontier.
The reveal suggests combat will emphasize:
- Precise timing
- Strategic positioning
- Powerful firearms
- Unique abilities
- RPG progression
- Multiple character builds
The game can also be played cooperatively, allowing players to tackle its deadly encounters alongside friends.
