Mario Kart World Free Update Adds 10 Classic Courses

Nintendo has announced a major free update for Mario Kart World, adding 10 classic courses from the original Super Mario Kart alongside two new Knockout Tour rallies.

Revealed during the September 2026 Nintendo Direct, the update arrives later today, giving Nintendo Switch 2 players another batch of content without any additional cost.

10 Super Mario Kart Courses Are Coming to Mario Kart World

The headline addition is a collection of 10 courses originally featured in Super Mario Kart, bringing more classic tracks into Mario Kart World’s VS Race Mode.

Some of the locations will already look familiar to players. Elements of these classic courses have existed within Mario Kart World’s interconnected environment since launch, but they weren’t previously available as complete tracks in VS Mode.

Several of the returning courses also feature the familiar question mark panels associated with the original Super Mario Kart.

Knockout Tour Is Getting New Routes

Nintendo is expanding Knockout Tour as part of the same update, adding two new rallies for players to race through.

The announcement doesn’t include the paid expansion many players may have expected, but 10 additional courses represent a substantial free content drop for the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

Nintendo hasn’t announced any paid Mario Kart World DLC yet, so it’s currently unclear whether a larger expansion similar to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass is planned.

The new Mario Kart World update is free and launches later today on Nintendo Switch 2.
