Sony has officially doubled down on its partnership with Rockstar Games, stating that Grand Theft Auto VI will deliver its best experience on PlayStation 5 when it launches later this year.
The statement comes alongside the opening of GTA 6 pre-orders and the official reveal of the game’s cover art, with Sony highlighting several PS5-exclusive features that will help bring Leonida and Vice City to life.
Sony: GTA 6 Will Play Best On PlayStation 5
In a new post published on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Vice President of Marketing Mary Yee discussed the company’s close collaboration with Rockstar Games ahead of GTA 6’s launch.
According to Sony, PlayStation players will benefit from several hardware features specifically designed to enhance immersion throughout Jason and Lucia’s story.
“Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5.”
The statement is one of the strongest endorsements we’ve seen so far regarding GTA 6’s PlayStation version and further reinforces the long-standing relationship between Rockstar and Sony that stretches all the way back to the original Grand Theft Auto releases on PlayStation hardware.
DualSense Features Will Bring Leonida To Life
Sony specifically highlighted the DualSense controller as one of the key reasons GTA 6 will feel more immersive on PS5.
Players can expect enhanced haptic feedback, adaptive trigger support, and audio effects delivered directly through the controller’s built-in speaker.
According to Sony, these features will allow players to feel everything from intense shootouts and high-speed chases to smaller environmental interactions across Leonida.
The adaptive triggers will dynamically react depending on the weapons and vehicles being used, while haptic feedback aims to provide more nuanced physical sensations during gameplay.
Tempest 3D Audio and Faster Loading Times
Sony also emphasized how GTA 6 will take advantage of the PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech system.
The company claims players will be able to hear the sounds of Vice City and the wider state of Leonida with greater positional accuracy, helping create a more realistic and immersive open-world experience.
Meanwhile, the PS5’s ultra-fast SSD will reportedly allow players to explore Rockstar’s largest open world ever created with near-instant loading times.
Considering the sheer scale of GTA 6, reducing load screens and transition times could be one of the biggest quality-of-life improvements compared to previous entries in the series.
GTA 6 Ultimate Edition and PlayStation Bonuses
Sony also confirmed additional details regarding pre-orders and special editions.
Pre-orders begin on June 25, with players able to purchase the Standard Edition or the newly revealed Grand Theft Auto VI Ultimate Edition.
The Ultimate Edition includes a large collection of exclusive content, including premium vehicles, weapons, outfits, businesses, customization options, and side missions spread throughout Jason and Lucia’s adventure.
Additionally, players who purchase any version before November 20 will receive the Vintage Vice City Pack, featuring rewards inspired by the classic Vice City era.
Perhaps most notably, Sony revealed that anyone who pre-orders GTA 6 through the PlayStation Store will instantly receive one free month of GTA+, Rockstar’s premium membership service.
A Huge Win For PlayStation
While GTA 6 will also launch on Xbox Series X|S, Sony’s marketing push clearly demonstrates just how important Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster is for PlayStation’s future.
The company is positioning GTA 6 as one of the defining experiences of the PS5 generation and appears eager to showcase every advantage its hardware can offer.
With launch day rapidly approaching and pre-orders finally opening, the marketing battle surrounding gaming’s biggest release is officially underway.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026.
