HBO’s The Last of Us Season 3 has added John Goodman, Laura Bailey and Ian Alexander to its cast, while Naughty Dog is also preparing new announcements for The Last of Us Day.

According to Deadline, Goodman and Alexander will play new characters named Joey and Paco, described as “Heroes of the Highway.”

Bailey will portray Elizabeth, a leader of the Seraphites, the religious group featured prominently in The Last of Us Part II.

The Last of Us Game Actors Return in New Roles

The casting is particularly notable because both Laura Bailey and Ian Alexander previously appeared in The Last of Us Part II.

Bailey originally portrayed Abby in the game, while Alexander played Lev. Neither will reprise those characters in HBO’s adaptation, where Kaitlyn Dever plays Abby and Kyriana Kratter portrays Lev.

Season 3 is expected to shift much of its focus toward Abby’s perspective as HBO continues adapting the events of The Last of Us Part II.

Meanwhile, Naughty Dog is preparing its delayed The Last of Us Day celebrations for Monday, September 28.

The studio will host a charity stream on its official Twitch channel and has teased a “partnership announcement, a very cool collaboration, digital surprises, and more.”

Naughty Dog hasn’t revealed exactly what those announcements will involve, so there is currently no indication that new game content will be part of the event.

The celebrations arrive as work continues on Season 3 of HBO’s adaptation, while Neil Druckmann has stepped back from the TV series to focus on Naughty Dog’s upcoming PS5 game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
