Just when fans thought Geralt’s journey was truly over…
CD Projekt Red has officially announced a brand-new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt called Songs of the Past.
Geralt of Rivia Returns One More Time
The announcement arrived directly from the official Witcher social channels alongside a short teaser message saying:
“Medallion’s humming… that can only mean one thing!”
CDPR confirmed that Songs of the Past will once again send players on the Path alongside Geralt of Rivia in an entirely new adventure set within the world of The Witcher 3.
The expansion is currently scheduled to launch in 2027 for:
- PC
- XBOX Series X|S
- PS5
And yes — this appears to be a fully current-gen expansion.

Fool’s Theory Is Co-Developing the Expansion
Interestingly, the new content is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory, the studio already heavily connected to the Witcher universe through previous collaborations and RPG projects.
That alone honestly makes this project even more interesting.
Fool’s Theory includes multiple developers with Witcher experience, and many fans already suspected the studio was quietly working on something tied to the franchise.
Turns out they were right.
CDPR Says More Information Is Coming Later This Summer
At the moment, details remain extremely limited.
CD Projekt Red has not yet revealed:
- The story
- The size of the expansion
- New regions
- Gameplay systems
- Characters
- Release timing beyond 2027
However, the company confirmed that a larger reveal is planned for late summer.
Which honestly means Witcher fans are probably about to spend the next several months analyzing every single frame and theory imaginable.

The Witcher 3 Somehow Refuses to Die
What makes this announcement especially wild is the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt originally launched all the way back in 2015.
And yet somehow…
The game continues returning over and over again with:
- Next-gen upgrades
- Netflix content integrations
- New quests
- Community support
- Modding tools
- And now an entirely new expansion
At this point, The Witcher 3 honestly feels immortal.
CDPR Is Building a Massive Witcher Future
The expansion announcement also arrives during an incredibly busy period for the franchise overall.
CD Projekt Red is currently working on:
- The Witcher 4
- The Witcher remake
- Multiple future Witcher projects
- Cyberpunk sequels
- Expanded Witcher universe content
And honestly?
Announcing new Witcher 3 content while The Witcher 4 hype is building is an absolutely genius move.
Because if there’s one thing guaranteed to instantly wake up the entire RPG community…
…it’s hearing Geralt of Rivia is returning one more time.
