Take-Two CEO Denies GTA 6 Crunch Rumors Ahead of November Launch

As anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI continues building ahead of its November release, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has publicly pushed back against rumors suggesting the game is being finished under extreme crunch conditions.

In a recent interview with Business Insider, Zelnick stated that neither Rockstar Games nor Take-Two operate using unhealthy development practices and insisted the company prefers delaying games rather than forcing teams into exhausting overtime.

“Crunch” Is Not the Goal at Rockstar

According to Zelnick, the company approaches game development more like long-term academic discipline rather than last-minute panic.

He compared the process to properly completing homework over time instead of staying awake all night trying to fix mistakes before a deadline.

The message was clear: if a game is not ready, Take-Two would rather postpone it than pressure developers into unsustainable working conditions.

That philosophy may also explain why Grand Theft Auto VI experienced multiple delays throughout development.

Rockstar Leadership Praised for Team Management

Zelnick also praised Rockstar’s leadership team, saying the studio is capable of motivating employees around massive creative goals without destroying work-life balance in the process.

According to him, Rockstar succeeds by keeping teams focused on delivering something extraordinary while maintaining healthier internal practices than the industry has historically been known for.

Crunch culture has long been one of gaming’s biggest controversies, especially around major AAA launches, with several studios previously facing criticism for excessive overtime and burnout during final development phases.

Take-Two now appears eager to position itself differently.

GTA 6’s November Release Looking Increasingly Locked In

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from Zelnick’s comments is the confidence surrounding GTA 6’s current release target.

With marketing expected to ramp up heavily over the coming months, the statements strongly suggest that Take-Two believes development is progressing smoothly toward launch.

If the game truly ships in November without reports of severe crunch emerging behind the scenes, it could become one of the biggest examples yet that blockbuster games can still be delivered without relying on damaging development cycles.

GTA 6 Launches November 19

Grand Theft Auto VI is officially scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S

A PC version is still expected to arrive later, although Rockstar has not yet announced an official release date for that version.
