Last week was one of the biggest weeks gaming has seen in years.
Across PlayStation’s State of Play, Summer Game Fest, and Xbox Games Showcase, publishers unveiled dozens of major projects, surprise sequels, long-awaited remakes, and entirely new franchises. From God of War and Resident Evil to Fable, Halo, Final Fantasy, and Spyro, there was no shortage of blockbuster announcements.
If you missed the showcases, here’s everything that mattered.
God of War Returns — But Not With Kratos
Perhaps the biggest surprise from PlayStation’s State of Play was the reveal of God of War: Laufey.
For the first time in franchise history, players will step into the role of Faye, Kratos’ wife, as she journeys through the mysterious afterlife of the gods known as The Everywhen.
Santa Monica Studio confirmed the game combines the aerial combat and mobility of the original Greek saga with the cinematic storytelling and world-building of the Norse games. Players will battle gods from multiple mythologies, wield powerful soul-based abilities, and explore one of the most ambitious settings the series has ever attempted.
Fortunately for longtime fans, Santa Monica also reassured players that Kratos isn’t going anywhere and will continue to play a major role in future God of War projects.

The new footage highlighted brutal combat, dismemberment mechanics, stealth gameplay, and Logan’s iconic healing abilities. Insomniac also confirmed that players will have the option to disable gore entirely through accessibility settings.
Wolverine launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 later this year.
