STEP 1 – Complete the final quest
Black Tides is the final story content update released for Assassin’s Creed Shadows as part of Update 1.1.11. Before you can begin this questline, you must complete several prerequisite quests tied to the main story and post-game content.
Requirements
- Complete Naoe and Yasuke’s main storyline
- Complete A Critical Encounter
- Complete A Puzzlement
Once these requirements are met, a new Featured Event called A Disturbance in Kii will appear on your Objective Board.
STEP 2 – Enter the Domains
After completing the Templar questline, a new activity called Domains becomes available. Speak with the Host and begin your first Domain run.
Domains are procedurally generated combat challenges where you’ll fight enemies, earn exclusive currency, and unlock permanent upgrades through the Mastery system. Most of the remaining trophies in this update are tied directly to progressing through Domains, completing objectives, and purchasing upgrades.
Goal: Complete your first Domain to unlock the Mastery system and start earning progression-related trophies.
End of Order
Defeat the Templars
This will be unlocked when you complete all main missions in final quest called BLACK TIDES (explanation bellow).
Black Tides Quest Order
The Black Tides storyline follows a linear sequence:
- Black Tides
- A Disturbance in Kii
- Double-Crossed
- Buried Secrets
Travel to the Kii region and head to Sazae Oni Shores to begin the questline. Approaching the objective will trigger a cutscene featuring Eamon Hathaway, officially starting the Black Tides story.
The entire questline can be completed in approximately 30–45 minutes and is required for all Black Tides-related trophies and achievements.

Infinite Introduction
Activate an Exploit
This trophy is very easy to unlock. After starting the New Domains questline and completing your first Domain, you’ll earn a special currency (MODcoins) that can only be obtained through Domain runs. Once you return to the robot, also known as the MOD, interact with them. You’ll be given two options: visit the Shop or access the Mastery/Skill Tree. Select the skill tree and spend your newly earned currency on any available upgrade. As soon as you purchase your first Mastery upgrade, the trophy will unlock.
MOD Runner
Complete a Challenge Level 10 Domain
MOD Runner
To unlock MOD Runner, you must complete a Challenge Level 10 Domain. To begin, travel to Hidden River in Yamato and speak with MOD, who introduces the Domain challenge system.
Domains consist of 10 increasingly difficult challenge levels. Each run requires you to eliminate several Daisho targets, similar to clearing a castle in the base game, before facing a powerful boss at the end of the Domain. You must complete every level in order to unlock Challenge Level 10.
The difficulty gradually increases with each Domain level, starting on Forgiving difficulty and eventually reaching Nightmare. Fortunately, you can use everything available in the main game, including:
- Allies
- Weapons and armor
- Mastery skills
- Abilities
- Hideout bonuses
I highly recommend using Yasuke for these challenges due to his superior health pool, survivability, and combat-focused playstyle. The higher your level and gear quality, the easier these challenges become.
Preparation Tips
- Upgrade your Hideout to maximize passive bonuses.
- Spend Mastery Points to strengthen your build.
- Equip Level 100 weapons and armor whenever possible.
- Purchase Domain Exploits using MODcoins to gain additional advantages.
Important: You must be Level 100 to access Domain Levels 8–10.
Earning MODcoins
After successfully completing a Domain, you’ll earn MODcoins, which can be spent in the Domain shop to unlock Exploits. These permanent upgrades make future Domain runs significantly easier and are highly recommended before attempting the later challenge levels.
You can also obtain Domain Tokens by clearing corrupted castles throughout the world.
Deaths Are Allowed
Don’t worry about dying during a Domain run. If you fail, you’ll simply respawn at the most recent checkpoint, either after your last Daisho elimination or immediately before the boss encounter, allowing you to continue your progress without restarting the entire challenge.
