Ubisoft has welcomed back one of its most experienced Assassin’s Creed developers, with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla director Eric Baptizat returning to the company five years after his departure.
Baptizat has a long history with the franchise and previously worked on several major Assassin’s Creed titles, including Black Flag, Origins, Unity, and Valhalla. After leaving Ubisoft in 2021, he joined EA Motive, where he went on to direct the critically acclaimed Dead Space remake.
Now, he is officially back with Assassin’s Creed.
Eric Baptizat Returns to Assassin’s Creed
Jean Guesdon, Head of Content for Assassin’s Creed, announced Baptizat’s return and confirmed that he will take on the role of Game Director for the Assassin’s Creed brand.
It is a significant appointment considering Baptizat’s history with both Ubisoft and the series.
Before leaving the company, he spent around 16 years at Ubisoft and worked across several generations of Assassin’s Creed.
He served as lead designer on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, worked as a senior designer on Assassin’s Creed Unity, contributed heavily to Assassin’s Creed Origins, and eventually became Game Director on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
That gives Baptizat experience with both the traditional Assassin’s Creed formula and the massive RPG-style games that defined the franchise’s more recent era.
Baptizat Directed the Dead Space Remake
Baptizat left Ubisoft in 2021 to join EA Motive, where he continued working on major AAA projects.
His biggest project outside Ubisoft was the Dead Space remake, which he directed for EA Motive.
Released in 2023, the remake was widely praised for modernizing the survival horror classic while maintaining the atmosphere and core design that made the original so popular.
Baptizat also worked as a design director on Battlefield 6 during his time away from Ubisoft.
His return therefore brings several years of additional AAA development experience back into the Assassin’s Creed team.

Ubisoft has not yet revealed exactly which upcoming games Baptizat will directly oversee, but his new position suggests he will have a major role in shaping the franchise moving forward.
After five years away, Eric Baptizat is officially back with Assassin’s Creed, bringing decades of experience with him at a crucial moment for Ubisoft’s flagship franchise.
