Beast of Reincarnation Director Apologizes and Promises Major Improvements

Beast of Reincarnation director Kota Furushima has apologized to players for some of the game’s problems, promising that Game Freak will continue improving its ambitious new IP based on feedback from the community.

Beast of Reincarnation represented something very different for Game Freak. Best known as the developer behind Pokémon, the studio stepped into considerably more ambitious action-RPG territory with its new IP. While the game received generally positive reviews, its launch hasn’t been without criticism.

Game Freak has already started addressing some of those complaints through updates, but Furushima acknowledges there is still plenty of work to be done.

Game Freak Says Beast of Reincarnation Still Needs Improvements

Beast of Reincarnation currently sits at 73/100 on Metacritic based on 60 PS5 reviews, putting its overall critical reception firmly in positive territory.

However, players have highlighted several issues with the experience, and Game Freak isn’t ignoring the criticism.

Speaking with 4Gamer in a translated interview, director Kota Furushima acknowledged the problems and apologized to players who haven’t been able to enjoy the game as comfortably as the development team intended.

“First of all, I feel there are still things that need to be addressed honestly and sincerely. We apologize for the parts where you haven’t been able to play comfortably enough.”

Furushima believes the core ideas Game Freak wanted to communicate through Beast of Reincarnation have successfully reached players, but admitted that improvements are necessary to ensure those strengths aren’t overshadowed by other issues.

“The parts I wanted to convey as a game have truly reached through. However, to ensure you can enjoy it that much, there are still areas that need improvement, so we want to make sure to improve it.”

More Beast of Reincarnation Updates Are Coming

Game Freak has already begun that process.

A recent Beast of Reincarnation patch addressed some of the game’s existing problems, but Furushima’s comments indicate the studio isn’t finished and intends to continue responding to player feedback.

Toward the end of the interview, the director once again thanked the community while acknowledging that certain elements of the game remain frustrating.

“Thank you so much to everyone playing right now. While you enjoy it, there are still areas that need improvement, and we apologize for making it difficult to play. We want to respond thoroughly going forward while listening to the feedback we receive.”

It’s a strong indication that Beast of Reincarnation will continue receiving post-launch support rather than Game Freak simply moving on after its initial patches.

Beast of Reincarnation Could Be Important for Game Freak’s Future

Beast of Reincarnation is particularly interesting because it represents Game Freak stepping outside the franchise that has defined the studio for decades.

The game hasn’t been a critical disaster by any means. A Metacritic score in the 70s still represents a generally well-received release, even if some of the online reaction has been considerably harsher.

What happens next could therefore be just as important as the launch itself.

If Game Freak can address the most common complaints through patches and continue improving the overall experience, Beast of Reincarnation could still establish itself as another meaningful franchise for the developer.

It will also be interesting to see whether lessons learned from the project influence Game Freak’s other upcoming games, including Pokémon Winds and Waves, particularly when it comes to technical performance and player expectations.

For now, Furushima’s message is clear: Game Freak knows Beast of Reincarnation isn’t where the studio wants it to be yet, and improvements are coming.
