Sony has officially confirmed its next PlayStation State of Play for September 3, 2026, promising new announcements from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners before concluding with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

The rumors were right. PlayStation is kicking off September with another major showcase, and we won’t have to wait long to see what Sony has planned for the remainder of 2026 and beyond.

The September 2026 State of Play takes place on Thursday, September 3, with two broadcasts scheduled back-to-back. The regular State of Play will be followed immediately by State of Play Japan, focusing more heavily on upcoming games from developers across Japan and Asia.

Sony has already confirmed one major attraction for the main presentation, while games including Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet are being discussed as possible appearances.

For European viewers, that makes this a particularly convenient State of Play compared with some of Sony’s late-night presentations.

State of Play Japan Will Follow Immediately After

Sony isn’t stopping after the main presentation.

Once the regular State of Play concludes, State of Play Japan will begin immediately afterward, once again hosted by Yuki Kaji.

Sony says the second broadcast will provide deeper looks at upcoming titles from developers across Japan and Asia, including new gameplay and announcements.

That effectively makes September 3 a double showcase for PlayStation fans, with the first presentation covering the broader PlayStation lineup before the focus shifts toward Japanese and Asian developers.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Will Get an Extended Look

We already know at least one major game appearing during the presentation.

Sony has confirmed that the main State of Play will conclude with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation from Square Enix.

PlayStation’s official announcement explains:

“State of Play returns Thursday, September 3 with two broadcasts airing back-to-back.”

The company says viewers can expect updates and announcements from both PlayStation Studios and third-party partners, followed by the extended Final Fantasy VII Revelation presentation.

That wording leaves plenty of room for additional surprises before Square Enix takes over the final portion of the show.

What Other Games Could Appear?

Beyond Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Sony is keeping most of the lineup under wraps.

The company has only promised updates and announcements involving its own PlayStation Studios projects and third-party partners.

The presentation also arrives shortly before the release of Marvel’s Wolverine, which launches exclusively for PS5 on September 15.

With Insomniac’s game so close to release, another appearance would certainly make sense, although Sony hasn’t confirmed Wolverine for the show.

There could also be updates on games targeting 2027 and beyond, especially as September State of Play presentations have traditionally given Sony an opportunity to establish what PlayStation players can expect heading into the following year.

For now, however, Final Fantasy VII Revelation remains the major confirmed attraction.

The September State of Play will be available through PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.

The easiest option will be PlayStation’s YouTube channel, where the livestream should appear in the Live section ahead of the broadcast. Viewers will also be able to watch through PlayStation’s official Twitch channel.

Once the main State of Play concludes, viewers can remain tuned in for the State of Play Japan broadcast immediately afterward.

With Final Fantasy VII Revelation confirmed for an extended presentation, PlayStation Studios updates promised and Intergalactic among the games being rumored, September 3 could give us a much clearer picture of Sony’s plans for 2027 and beyond.
