The Last of Us Season 3 is officially targeting 2027, and HBO leadership now believes it could also be the final season of the live-action adaptation.

While showrunner Craig Mazin previously discussed the possibility of extending the story across Seasons 3 and 4, HBO and Max Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys has now indicated that the current plan may be to conclude the series with its upcoming third season.

The Last of Us Season 3 Is Coming in 2027

Speaking in a new interview with Deadline, Bloys confirmed that Season 3 will arrive sometime in 2027, although HBO isn’t ready to announce a specific date.

“It’ll be happening in ’27. I don’t have a date.”

When directly asked whether Season 3 would be the final season, Bloys pointed toward Mazin’s current plans.

“I think Craig has planned it as the final season.”

Importantly, Mazin himself has not officially confirmed that Season 3 will end the series, leaving some uncertainty around HBO’s long-term plans.

Season 3 Will Focus on Abby

Several details about the upcoming season have already been confirmed. The story will shift its focus toward Abby’s perspective, following the structure established by The Last of Us Part II.

Kyriana Kratter and Michelle Mao have also joined the cast as Lev and Yara, respectively.

Beyond that, HBO has yet to reveal a specific release date or the full cast for Season 3.

For now, The Last of Us Season 3 is confirmed for 2027, while its status as the show’s final season appears to be the current plan rather than a definitive announcement.
