Modern Warfare 4 Finally Stops 2XP Tokens From Counting Down Outside Matches

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is making a major quality-of-life change to Double XP Tokens, with their timers now counting down based on in-game time instead of continuing to run while players sit in menus and lobbies.

For years, Call of Duty’s 2XP Tokens have continued counting down in real time after activation, meaning players could lose valuable Double XP while matchmaking, sitting in menus or dealing with interruptions outside a match.

Modern Warfare 4 is finally changing that system.

2XP Tokens Will Only Count Down During Gameplay

Activision has confirmed that “Tokens will count down in game time.”

This means activating a 30-minute Double XP Token will no longer waste part of its duration while you’re waiting to enter another match. The timer will instead be tied to actual gameplay.

Another important change is that existing Black Ops 7 2XP Tokens will carry over to Modern Warfare 4.

Players currently building up a collection of unused tokens in Black Ops 7 therefore won’t need to spend them before moving over to the next Call of Duty.

Double XP Tokens have traditionally been available through challenges, Battle Pass rewards and other parts of Call of Duty’s progression system, making the change particularly useful for players trying to efficiently level their account or weapons.

It’s a relatively simple adjustment, but one the Call of Duty community has requested for years — and Modern Warfare 4 is finally implementing it.
