GTA 6 will feature tropical storms and hurricanes as part of an advanced dynamic weather system designed to make Leonida’s environment react realistically to changing conditions.
New details from Game Informer’s coverage of Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal how Rockstar is expanding weather simulation across its Florida-inspired open world.
The system goes beyond simply changing between sunshine and rain, with wind, water, vegetation and environmental objects all reacting dynamically to weather conditions.

Hurricanes and Tropical Storms Confirmed for GTA 6
The updated wind system includes offshore breezes after sunset, convectional updrafts and wind occlusion caused by buildings.
According to the report, hair and debris can swirl around rooftops, while gusts create ripples across water and bend grass throughout Leonida’s swamps.
More significantly, tropical storms and hurricanes are confirmed.
During major storms, players can expect heavy clouds, strong winds, dense atmospheric effects and substantial rainfall. Water will run from rooftops and lampposts, while thunder and lightning dynamically illuminate the clouds.
It remains unclear how frequently hurricanes will occur or whether major storms will directly influence missions and the story.
The new weather technology adds another layer to Rockstar’s increasingly detailed simulation of Leonida, alongside the numerous side activities and wildlife systems recently revealed.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
