Call of Duty: Black Ops And Black Ops 2 Are Finally Coming To PlayStation 4 And PS5

Two of the most beloved entries in Call of Duty history are making their long-awaited return.

It has officially been announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this July, giving a new generation of players the chance to experience Treyarch’s iconic campaigns and multiplayer modes on modern PlayStation hardware.

Black Ops 1 And 2 Are Getting Modern PlayStation Ports

The announcement was first shared by the official Treyarch Call of Duty account on X, confirming that both games are being brought to PlayStation consoles with assistance from Iron Galaxy Studios.

According to the announcement:

“It’s official: the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation in July, courtesy of our partners at Iron Galaxy.”

While release dates have yet to be revealed, both titles are expected to arrive sometime during July 2026.

At the moment, neither Activision nor Treyarch has confirmed whether similar ports are planned for Xbox or PC platforms.

Originally released in 2010, Call of Duty: Black Ops introduced players to one of the franchise’s most memorable campaigns, featuring CIA operative Alex Mason, Cold War conspiracies, and the iconic Zombies mode.

Its sequel, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, launched in 2012 and expanded the formula with a near-future setting, branching story choices, and one of the most highly regarded multiplayer experiences in Call of Duty history.

Even years later, both titles continue to rank among fan favorites whenever players debate the greatest entries in the series.

The return of these games to modern PlayStation hardware is likely to be welcomed by longtime fans who have been requesting easier access to classic Call of Duty titles for years.

These Are Ports, Not Remasters

Players should keep their expectations in check, however.

Activision has confirmed that these releases are ports of the original games rather than full remasters or remakes. That means fans should expect the classic experience largely intact rather than upgraded visuals, redesigned mechanics, or major modern enhancements.

What remains unclear is how Activision plans to handle online functionality.

Both games were originally built around multiplayer infrastructure from more than a decade ago, and questions remain regarding server support, matchmaking systems, anti-cheat measures, and overall online stability.

Additional information is expected closer to launch.

A Big Year For Call Of Duty Fans

The announcement arrives during an already busy period for the franchise.

Alongside the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Activision continues to support Warzone, while classic Call of Duty content has seen renewed interest from both longtime fans and newer players.

For many, Black Ops and Black Ops 2 represent the golden era of the franchise, making their arrival on PlayStation one of the most nostalgic Call of Duty announcements in recent years.

Whether you’re returning for the unforgettable campaigns, competitive multiplayer, or endless rounds of Zombies, July is shaping up to be an exciting month for Call of Duty fans.
