A new extended Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer has confirmed that Mickey Mouse will be playable, giving fans their first look at a completely different style of gameplay featuring the iconic Disney character.
Kingdom Hearts fans received plenty of news during D23, including the announcement of a new Kingdom Hearts anime coming to Disney+ and Disney Channel. The event also confirmed that Pixar’s Coco will have its own world in Kingdom Hearts 4.
However, an extended version of the trailer has now revealed even more, including playable Mickey Mouse, new footage featuring Donald and Goofy, and another look at Sora’s mysterious new surroundings.

Mickey Mouse Will Be Playable in Kingdom Hearts 4
The biggest surprise from the extended trailer is a gameplay sequence featuring Mickey Mouse.
Mickey appears to have been pulled inside a mysterious book while continuing his mission to save Sora. The footage shows him traveling through the book itself, with the environment seemingly transforming around him as he progresses.
Rather than simply showing Mickey during a cutscene, the sequence clearly presents him as a playable character and appears to involve puzzle-focused gameplay.
Exactly how large Mickey’s playable role will be remains unclear. The trailer doesn’t confirm whether players will regularly switch between characters or whether his section is part of a specific story sequence.
Either way, it confirms that Kingdom Hearts 4 won’t exclusively focus on controlling Sora throughout the entire adventure.
Donald and Goofy Explore Coco’s Land of the Dead
The extended footage also provides another look at Donald and Goofy, who appear to be undertaking their own journey while separated from Sora.
The pair can be seen traveling through Hades’ Underworld before eventually reaching the Land of the Dead from Pixar’s Coco.
Coco was one of the major new worlds confirmed for Kingdom Hearts 4 during D23, and its colorful interpretation of the afterlife looks like a natural fit for the Kingdom Hearts universe.
The trailer also features additional battles against the Heartless, suggesting Donald and Goofy’s journey will involve plenty of action alongside the story surrounding their search for Sora.

More Quadratum and Riku Shown
Fans also get another look at Quadratum, the strikingly realistic city that represents one of the biggest visual departures from previous Kingdom Hearts worlds.
Quadratum has been central to the mystery surrounding Kingdom Hearts 4 since the game’s original reveal, particularly because of Sora’s dramatically more realistic appearance while inside the world.
The extended trailer concludes with another appearance from Riku, further teasing his involvement in the search for Sora and the larger story.
Between playable Mickey Mouse, Donald and Goofy’s separate adventure, Coco’s Land of the Dead, and more footage of Quadratum, the latest trailer suggests Kingdom Hearts 4 could feature several interconnected perspectives rather than focusing entirely on Sora.
Square Enix hasn’t yet revealed exactly how frequently players will control Mickey or whether other characters will also become playable.
Still, after years of waiting for substantial Kingdom Hearts 4 news, fans finally have a much clearer idea of how ambitious the next chapter could be.
