An unannounced Koei Tecmo project, currently known by the working title Project Fuji, has reportedly been selected as part of a Japanese government initiative designed to help create the country’s next major entertainment franchises.
The project appears alongside new games from SEGA, Konami, Arc System Works, Square Enix, Applibot, and DeNA under Japan’s IP360 program.
What Is Japan’s IP360 Initiative?
According to a report from Automaton, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has officially approved several game development projects for its IP360 initiative.
Launched earlier in 2026, the program aims to strengthen Japan’s global entertainment industry by supporting the creation of entirely new intellectual properties across:
- Video games
- Anime
- Manga
- Other Japanese cultural exports
Participating companies receive financial support and development assistance to help transform original ideas into internationally recognized franchises.
Koei Tecmo’s “Project Fuji”
Among the approved projects is Project Fuji, a brand-new IP from Koei Tecmo Games.
The official project description states:
“Leveraging Koei Tecmo Games’ expertise in oriental-themed visuals and action games, the company will develop a completely new IP game title, aiming for a worldwide hit and broad IP expansion starting from the game.”
Although no gameplay, platforms, or release window have been revealed, the description strongly suggests an original action game inspired by Eastern themes—a genre in which Koei Tecmo has extensive experience through franchises like Nioh, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and Dynasty Warriors.
Other Major Publishers Included
Project Fuji isn’t the only high-profile game receiving support through the IP360 initiative.
Several prominent Japanese developers have also announced new projects:
SEGA
SEGA confirmed that Virtua Fighter Crossroads is part of the initiative, describing it as a large-scale project intended to become a long-term global franchise using modern technology and a live-service capable design.
Arc System Works
The studio is developing an entirely new fighting game IP built around its signature stylized 3D animation technology.
Konami
Konami revealed it is working on a brand-new console game designed for both Japanese and international audiences, although no additional details were shared.
Square Enix
Rather than announcing a new title, Square Enix stated that the funding will support localization improvements, multilingual development, and quality assurance to better serve overseas markets.
Applibot
Applibot unveiled Project Needle, a new action game for PC and consoles featuring a unique world inspired by Japanese history.
DeNA
DeNA confirmed it is developing new mobile game IP with a primary focus on expanding into the North American market.
A Major Investment in New Japanese Franchises
The IP360 initiative represents one of Japan’s most ambitious efforts to promote original entertainment properties on a global scale.
Rather than relying solely on established franchises, the program encourages developers to build entirely new IP capable of expanding beyond games into other forms of media.
With industry giants like Koei Tecmo, SEGA, Konami, and Arc System Works participating, Project Fuji is already shaping up as one of several intriguing projects to watch over the coming years.
